Wifi slow on hub but fast

Afternoon all, we recently swapped from BT to Sky broadband, having had Sky Q for several years.

We had a Sky broadband booster given to us a few years ago to help with the Sky Q mini boxes. After some issues with wifi dropping out, I disconnected the booster to see if that was the cause. The wifi dropped to 7mb at best, where previously this was 100-200mb. The wired devices are reporting 200mb speeds as normal.

After plugging the booster back in our speeds are back up to normal, so it looks like the main sky hub wifi is performing poorly. If I unplug the booster we're back down to single digits. The booster is sitting next to the hub to rule out interference issues.

Has anyone had this or anything similar and have any suggestions?

There's very little point having a 'booster' adjacent to a Hub, because neither is more powerful than the other (WiFi being heavily regulated for maximum output, otherwise it would be unpleasant to have indoors)

Such hardware should really be called 'relays' or 'repeaters' and is intended to be located at a mid-point between the source (router) and areas with weak or no coverage.

Re: Wifi slow on hub but fast

The booster was previously in another room where coverage wasn't great. For clarity the booster was and still is connected via a wired connection to the main hub.
My issue is that when the booster is disconnected all devices connect to the hub with a maximum speed of 7mb or so. If the booster is connected (regardless of whether it is next to the hub or in another room), all devices connect to the booster and speeds reach 100mb+
