WiFi seems to be going crazy

We have Sky Boost and for some reason lately, the broadband/wifi is lagging.  We keep getting the blue ring of death on the sky TV with programmes we're trying to watch or is showing as not having any connection.

We do a speed test and it records as being all ok but it clearly isn't.  We haven't done anything different, its been playing up for about 2 weeks or so now and normally we've had no problems.

When I go to My Sky on my laptop (Acer) it says its insecure - also with my phone (iphone) it says weak security on my phone connection.

I've recently had a very nasty phone call (police involved) where the person gave me my correct home address and now I'm really worried that someone has got into our broadband connection.

iPhones complain about any WiFi connection which isn't using WPA3 encryption (which the vast majority of ISP routers cannot support)

That's entirely unconnected to any broadband issues, slow wireless connection or other incidents.

If you are accessing the Hub IP address rather than 'My Sky' (which isn't available on a laptop), I suspect you're seeing a browser warning about self-signed SSL certificates.  That's entirely normal: no data is leaving your local network and so real encryption isn't required.

@Sally66

You said you have 'Sky Boost' (presumably Broadband Boost) but have you claimed booster hardware under the WiFi Guarantee?  Without that, the subscription supplement isn't actually doing anything.

@Sheila511 check you are typing it correctly as its easy to confusectge letterO with the number 0. If youbare sure you are entering it correctly tell the laptop tonforget thecSky connection then fully reboot the unit as thst should clear the mistaken value and allow you tonenter the new one.

@Sally66 unless you gave the caller access to a device your network is very unlikely to be compromised and the various issues are likely unconnected. The poor WiFi cannot be caused by a hacker and if you have bought Sky's Broadband Boost they should supply a booster if you call them.

When you are worried false security warnings are the last thing you want to see but as pointed out modern equipment give more false warnings than real ones. Speak to Sky but it is very unlikely your network has been hacked but it is quite easy for a con artist to have your number and address from any one of the sites you have entered those details which has had a data breach. It happens.

I had a similar call myself from someone yesterday claiming to be from O2 who had my name and number  and started a scipt about network security etc which I stopped pointing out they were a scammer as a) my mobile isnt with O2 and b) mobile networks dont call people. Caller hung up when I queried why she was involved in crime odd that.
