WiFi new installation not half the property coverd

The WiFi only works in half of the bungalow. The WiFi doesn't reach the television and is not available in the part of the bungalow in which we live in the daytime..

I pointed this out to the installer who said that he knew what he was doing. I am now trying to contact Sky to see if they can help or cancel all my plans..

The existing copper wire broadband and WiFi was working fine but Sky bullied me into making a new installation by making large increases in price and slowing the service lower that the agreement speeds..

I have only screenshot records , because Sky make promises on the phone and then charge the bills. I have a promise of £77 rate and now they are showing over £80.

The installer has done nothing to make the internet 🛜 connection work better for me as a customer.

My phone, my TV, also the cable to the security system is now too short..

I'm just left with problems.

It’s almost impossible to speak to people who will solve problems at SKY.., The bot 🤖 system of customer service is a nightmare if you need help and advice, agents pass on the customer time after time until the customer leaves frustrated with the problem unresolved.

Re: WiFi new installation not half the property coverd

Thanks for the advice, Sky and Openreach are so pathetic that they can't even make the installation work without the customer spending time and money to get the router in the correct location ☹️. The Openreach guy could have just run a few more metres of fibre along the outside wall under the roof soffit of the bungalow.. the router would then have been in a more central location within the property. He was, as you said, just too much in a rush to get out of the door 🚪..

I'm now about to order 20m of CAT5e or better CAT6 cable. I understand that there are many poor quality cables that are not pure copper so hopefully I can find a good one. Then drill two holes in the cavity walls and install the copper wire to the correctly positioned router 😎..

Cheers for the help..

PS. So fibre upgrade is NOT ALL FIBRE .. extra copper needs to be installed by the customer in some cases 🤨..

@Skyofhope Help below, and you will need to move the sky hub to the position you found best before all the upgrade, longer Ethernet cable will do that for you! You can thank the installer for the complete lack and the time that is allocated to rush the job through and get out the door leaving you the one with all the problems now! You want it fixed then do it yourself sky will not take care off it at all!

Re: WiFi new installation not half the property coverd

I know that I need to move the router near to the middle of the bungalow. However the fibre optic cable is only about 1m long. I can buy a 15m ethnet cable but would I need a fibre optic cable instead of copper cable? What do you think?

Thanks

Re: WiFi new installation not half the property coverd

@Skyofhope Ethernet cable off the Length you need is all that is required, The ONT just stays where it is, and Port 4 wan connection back off your sky Hub to the Lan on the ONT is all that is required to be changed, cat 5e onwards will be good enough for it! Just dump your old small cable that sky supplied.

Keep away from the Optical cable, best not to touch it ever if you can!

Re: WiFi new installation not half the property coverd

@Skyofhope It's the fact installation Engineers are NOT network specialist's in any form, and they have a time constraint throw it in stick it were they can and then, oops that just does not work for the end user, you have found this out first hand!

It's NOT going to get any better, i turned the first M J Quinn Engineer away at my install, 21 day's extra that delayed the install and OR came installed NO issues, huge respect for OR, Engineer took one step back said good no problem but you know, i said yip took care off it all the Ethernet is all run ready for you, done and dusted!

Fibre is just not the same as sticking a copper cable in for phone connection in the slightest for many many reason's!

Re: WiFi new installation not half the property coverd

Well, there must be more industry platforms that will be run by robots and a few humans ready off screens....

Thanks again for your help.. I'm probably just one of millions who is not only frustrated with Sky and Openreach but also mindful of the face that they are able to change for their incompetence...

How this will progress is beyond me.... In the old days one could just pickup the phone and speak to someone who could help or find someone who could fix the issue..

@Skyofhope The good old day's me thinks are long gone, if the computer say's no when the phone does not work, thinking out side the box has fallen by the wayside!
