WiFi keeps disconnecting at least once a day, hub reboots and has red lights

Every day the last week or so my wifi drops out without warning, the hub looks like it's rebooted and has red lights which then eventually turn green. I am only aware of what happens in tbe evening and this could happend during the day also, it's happend twice tonight so far. I am convinced there is an issue with the hub as every time I do a service check it comes back all good.

I'm also not happy with the wifi coverage in general. I'm paying for what I believe is the top upload / download speed yet when my sons are playing their games they are constantly complaining of latency and the games lagging with poor wifi showing as the issue on their consoles which are only a maximum of 5 meters from the hub in an adjacent room.

@niknak1985 if your hub is spotaenously rebooting and you have already checked it isnt caused by issues with the mains supply, ie lights aren't dimming or a lose connection, then it is likely to be faulty. Give Sky a ring and they will replace it.However unless your hub is the flat type you are likely to be sent the same model.

The speed to your hub has a guaranteed minimum which for partial fibre services is set by the length of the copper line to the cabinet you can check the actual speed in the Service Checker in the My Sky app which if you click through shows tge history for the last few weeks. If the hub has been rebooting frequently it is possible that the systems manging the line have temporarily limited the speed as the reboots look like line faults and the equipment will attempt to stabilise the connection.. That point does not apply to full fibre.

Gaming using WiFi is often affected by high latency if the signal is poor and ethernet cables are always preferred. While 5m of air should not be too much of a problem but if there are internal walls etc power is lost, the denser the wall the greater the loss. Any metal in the path completely blocks the signal. Each home has its own issues but in many a single wifi source is insufficent to give good wifi in every room even if that source is in the optimum position which is out in the open on a surface so its above obstructions like radiators.

Sky can sell you an add-on called WiFi Max which can give up to3 wifi extenders if they are required or altenatively you can buy and use your own wifi equipment.
