WiFi dropping out all the time since “upgrade”

I "upgraded" recently and had a new Sky Router which has dropped in and out of connection continually since upgrading. What am I paying for?! It's driving me mad. Every time I run the checks nothing is reported.  I've had an engineer out who said this was a common problem and should be improved with a software patch within 2 weeks of his visit. That was a lot more than 2 weeks ago. It's happening multiple times a day. I'm disabled and mostly housebound so this is a real issue for me. It's my only connection with the outside world!

@Loulabelle4  What colour of router do you have from Sky? Black or white?

If someone has helped give them Like.

Re: WiFi dropping out all the time since “upgrade”

I have just upgraded to the new (white) router and the wifi is at best patchy, Went back to my older (black router) and wifi was booming in, have put my (new) white router on again and wifi problems  come back. Try to talk to a person on the phone but sky make sure you cannot speak to one.

@sailor Not 100% sure if you go up to the Sky Max as a hub then you can go back to using the older SR203 black router. They are completely different animals and have not experienced the sky Max so cannot comment as to how bad/good they are.

Personally would never use a hub that had to be set and operated using a mobile app, been there done it and will never do it again and that was EE which at least was semi opertional with a web structure but you did need the stupid app.

Hopefully one of the superuser's will advise either way. Good luck with it all.👍😶

Re: WiFi dropping out all the time since “upgrade”

Cheers Jim, amback on black router for the moment.. Seems problem is at Sky Q box, it sees the black router but does not see the new router, am not sure why. The black routers are being phased out by the end of the year which I why I went for the new one. My printer does not see the new router and now does not see the old one again don't know why. Have been trying to speak to a person which seems impossible with SKY. I will try and get an engineer if I can

Re: WiFi dropping out all the time since “upgrade”

@sailor With the new white Sky Max hub you may be finding the Sky Q box and the Printer if both wireless do not like the WPA3 mode, so you would have to use the app and adjust that down to WPA2-PSK for operation with older devices, you may also have to temp shut off the 5Ghz band to get any wireless device that struggles to connect on the 2.4Ghz band, once connected they normally stick ok, then turn the 5Ghz back on so that you have both again. It is only the older 2 hub's being phased out the link below shows you which.

As to why the wireless Wi-Fi signal does not seem as good between the 2 upright routers that i do not know, never had the Max so have never analysed the signal strength to say. Sky Q Hub and the Sky Hub being phased out end off the year due to low security settings...

Copied the 2nd link below incase you need to split bands or see how to reduce the WPA mode off operation.
