Wi-Fi slow and unreliable or unavailable anywhere beyond 10m from router

I get poor Wi-Fi in certain rooms indoors and in my garden, usually beyond 8-10 m from the router. This is worse than my previous provider

@ChrisF3 What did you have before, and what do you have now from sky!

Hi and thanks for your response. Our previous router was supplied by Shell Energy, which was then taken over by TalkTalk. I'm afraid I don't know the technical specification of the router. The broadband/ Wi-Fi package however, on paper, was inferior to Sky's.

Hi. It's the Sky max hub. Yes exactly the same position as previous.

@ChrisF3 The sky Max hub, seems to get a very bad rap for poor wi-fi signal strength so it does not appear to send the signal as far as possibly your previous hub, BUT there are NO two hubs that are alike, the reliability side and speed may also be down to the High spec off the sky max hub, the place to look and it is through your phone app is the wireless WPA setting's, hub has WPA3 or WPA3-T, you may find that the WPA2-PSK mode is way better. Place to start!

Distance cannot be done, if that is all you are getting then you are into getting a sky Max pod from them and that is a call to sky CS to get the ball rolling. Linked all those details below.

Hi, that's very helpful, thank you. I wouldn't have had a clue otherwise. If I get anywhere with those hub settings I'll post again. Cheers!

Re: Wi-Fi slow and unreliable or unavailable anywhere beyond 10m from router

Hi, Having changed the router settings to WPA2 as you suggested, two birds have been killed with one stone. First of all, the Wi-Fi range has certainly been extended - not massively but to a discernible degree. We will see how it goes on that.

Secondly, it has fixed the problem which was the subject of my other post on this forum, specifically that I could no way get my Sonos Playbar to connect to the Sky Wi-Fi network ( the rest of my Sonos kit was no problem). As soon as I changed the setting to WPA2, it connected straight away as you'd expect.
If the Wi-Fi range proves still to be an issue in future, I'll have to look into boosters I guess.

Once again, many thanks for your advice that's really helped. Cheers ChrisF3
