Acoustic coupler 😁 you put the handset in the coupler and hey presto 5 hours later and you manage to send an email and attachment

 

My first modulator demodulator was a 56k dial up

I agree with @TimmyBGood that the Sky Hub should be swapped out as a first step to attempt to solve the issue.

Thanks for the help guys. I've got an engineer visiting tomorrow to investigate the openreach mastersocket. I forgot to mention that the internet will also have issues when the phoneline is being used so hopfully they can find a cause/fault.
