Why router should I have received when upgrading to full fibre

I am meant to be having fibre installed on Friday.  Sky sent me a message to say I will receive a new router.  When then package arrived all it containted was a cable and a note stating 'enjoy your new router' or words to that effect.  What am I meant to have received?  I have called sky and get cut off and the chat option no longer exists as anythign other than a dumb automated response that bears no resemblance to my query.

Do you currently have the black Broadband hub? That should be compatible with FTTP by using an ethernet cable, If current customers don't opt to add a WiFi Max subscription the cable (described as a conversion kit) is what is sent out.

I wasn't told that I had to pay extra to make the router work properly.  The router I have is awful and I was told that upgrading the speed is what I needed.  I don't have wifi in half the house and the total floor size is only 100sqm.  I really hoped this would be sorted with a proper router, not another subscription to make the basic fibre connection work properly

Broadband isn't WiFi.  Wireless performance of any particular router depends on multiple factors: repeated posts in this forum suggest the earlier Sky Broadband Hub (2019)  actually performs better in some properties than the 2023 Max Hub.  Unfortunately Sky now chooses to only supply separate booster hardware with the WiFi Max subscription supplement.
