Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

For past 7 days, terrible service. Frequent connection drops. Any suggestions about better option than Sky. Price is not an issue.

@NPanchal

Perhaps asking for recommendations of an alternative provider to Sky on Skys own forum is unwise. You need to do your own research.

If you’re moving to another ISP you could use the One Touch Switching system which is explained in this link
https://www.uswitch.com/broadband/guides/one-touch-switch/

If you are cancelling Broadband/Talk altogether you need to contact Sky and give the required notice of 14 days. Remember that if you are still in a discounted 18/24 months deal Sky could impose cancellation charges.

Return packaging for any equipment Sky expect back will be sent out to you near the end of any notice period. Remember to keep any proof of posting indefinitely.

@NPanchal  We're all Sky customers here, you're not very likely to get a recommendation on this forum.

Perhaps do your own research, choose some alternatives and check their customer forums for potential issues.

@NPanchal Take it that where you came from is off the cards?

Re: Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

Is it that bad...I have just placed an order for Sky 500 due for instal on 29th April.

Should it be worried about all these negatives.

Re: Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

In a word "no".

It's not that bad. People leave Isp's for a few reasons.

I had mine which wasn't something Sky were able to solve so I had to move.

Very few people come onto a forum and say how wonderful things are. People do mention how bad things are though as well perhaps find it cathartic.

Sky will likely be fine for you. Try it and see. If not, I will you have options inside your cooling down time.

Re: Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

@Sayek Just came back to SKY from EE on a FF500 before and after, no real difference using the SR203 as before up front and centre so happy with it performance but do have my own routers and extenders mesh etc connecting through, EE messed up there router FW and side effect was all my network became a dog in operation, as i would not tolerate that they said nothing we can do it's not the router, same as before EE out SKY in no change to anything else back to working as before...

Re: Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

I am moving from Virgin Media after 5 years with them. There is a lot of negatives with Virgin Media but i had very little issues as I used my own router and most of the complaints on Virgin are Wi-Fi related. I understand ISP can't be held accountble for Wi-Fi performance.

I am more  interested about the actuall connection to router reliability as I work from home and 2 boys use the internet for university studies and the usual gaming.

Moving from Virgin as Openreach have now fitted the FTTP and the £27 for Sky 500 looks too good to pass.

Re: Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

@Sayek - my issue (on FTTP) was that when the signal dropped (every 3 or 4 weeks), when it came back on, I had to reboot the router for everything to reconnect. As I have a cameras and other bits connected and need the reliability FTTP should offer, I had to go elsewhere as Sky haven't fixed the issue (to do with equipment at their end). Doesn't affect everyone though.

Re: Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

Virgin use their own network so any issues with connection... there is only Virgin to blame.

If Sky is using Openreach network to delivery their service and there are interuptions to service...is it  Sky or Openreach delivering poor service.

Does that also mean even if switched to Vodafone using the same Openreach network, will experience same issues??

Reason I ask is seen few cheaper ISP like Onestream and Fibrely using Openreach.

Re: Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

Sky and a number of other ISP's use Openreach infrastructure.

Reliability with FTTP should be (and generally is) more reliable than FTTC.

My issue was specific to equipment at Sky's end an affects a relatively small number of customers. Chances are you would be fine.

Whichever ISP you use (EE, Vodafone, TalkTalk, Plusnet) they use Openreach infrastructure.

Re: Which is a good replacement for Sky Broadband

I'm having similar problems, my concern is will moving to another provider still have these issues as they'd also be using the OpenReach

infrastructure.

I would like to stay with Sky - much simpler for me but they are dragging their heals.

And the question around it being Sky's or OpenReach's problem - well I pay and have a contract with Sky, not OpenReach so it's a Sky issue to me.

@MaxineAl Would advise you to start your own post rather than jump to one, you have not even explained what your current issue is?
