What size hole does the engineer drill in my wall to install the ONT? Is it 6mm? 8mm? 10mm?

Hi wise Sky People,

I will be getting a full fiber install soon. I want my ONT installed under my stairs. The install tech. will not want to do this.  All of this I know.

I am perfectly happy and capable of preparing the route for the fiber cable from my front wall to "under the stairs". I can fit a pull cord so all the install tech. has to do is attach the fiber cable to the pull card and pull it through.  The lenght of the run is (pessimistically) 9m.

If I knew what size hole do drill I could prepare the route all the way from the outside wall to "under the stairs".

Would this be acceptable to a Sky Installation Tech. and "what size hole" do they drill?  I assume the fiber optic cables are pre-made and the tech. just passes the cable "connector and all" through the wall?

Thanks!

@flintdk It is a 10mm hole, but it is down to the Engineer on the install, MJ Quinn came to me as the installer PLONK he was party line, so I refused the install method he had, caused a 21 day delay but OR came as requested 2nd visit and did with no problems or issues!

@flintdk  given the standard cable connecting the ONT to the Sky hub is quite short and placing a WiFi router under the stairs is not sensible as the WiFi range will be reduced have you thought this through? You can use a longer Ethernet cable to link the two but you want the Sky hub out in the open  if you plan to connect devices by WiFi.

Appreciate the reply @Chrisee  - my house is completely wired in CAT6 and I have my own Wifi network and access point throughout the house.  My mini comms room (main switches etc.) is under the stairs.  I have no intention of using the Wifi from the sky hub - it is just a wan connection point for me.

Thank you for the comment though in case it helps others.

@Doc5907 To clarify, fibre cable down wall, drill through place hub in the cupboard with no power available, hub goes anywhere it will signal the whole house, that's how the hubs work. Option 2 will run the fibre from the back of the house, all the way along the back, side, and to the front, come in that way with the fibre, at least there is power in the living room, correct!
