Waiting for Broadband & Talk switch from Virgin, openreach problem

I'm in the process of utilsing one touch switch for my parents from Virgin to Sky, I've got an installation date of 25th april however I've just received the following message from Sky:

Openreach has informed us that they currently do not have the equipment in place to connect your broadband and talk to your phone exchange.  They are looking for the best way to get you connected. You will receive a text update on your order on 30th April.

I'm now unsure what to do, the date is past the installation date given by sky, its vital that the house is not left with no service as this is for my parents who are both in their 80s.  Virgin had them paying over £100 a month just for broadband and phone so OTS seemed the easiest route to take rather than trying to negotiate with Virgin, what would be my best option now? to cancel and talk to Virgin?

I've put the details in the BT wholesale checker website and it came back with the following:

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Pre built to curtilage Hard.

FTTP is available and a new ONT may be ordered.

As a fibre priority exchange, FTTP has priority over other products if available at the address

As a WLR withdrawal exchange, product restrictions apply

SOADSL is not restricted at the exchange

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

For all SOADSL services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

This site is in an FTTP priority area where FTTP is available but exceptionally SOGEA will also show as available to order but only at Non-Standard Premises (NSP) such as Hot site, Uninhabitable and Temporary locations. Migrations of WLR Solus (voice-only lines) is also allowed but only for SOGEA 0.5Mbps bandwidths. SOGEA 40/10 bandwidths order is also allowed.

Any help will be appreciated

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

@vixs if it is a switch using the One Touch system the Virgin service should be continued until the Sky servicecis up,and running. The only thing thst upsets thst would be if you or your parents have given notice to Virgin separately.

Underground installs are more prone to delays as ducts etc can be blocked or simply inaccessible. Sounds like Openreach have doneca quick survey or tge local team know the area well and found they need to do a dig which requires a different team.

Re: Waiting for Broadband & Talk switch from Virgin, openreach problem

Thanks for your reply.  I've not reached out to virgin at all (I was avoiding it), I did receive an email from them saying Sky has let them know they are switching providers and porting the landline on 25th April......I assume if this doesn't go ahead they will still have phone and internet connection as we haven't officially cancelled?

I know as soon as I mention this to my parents they will get stressed out and worry about no phone or not having a fixed date when engineers will turn up, as I've read this could take months.  I think I'm probably going to have to phone virgin to renegotiate (I know it will be a higher price than sky) for piece of mind, they get especially stressed over little things.

thanks for your help
