The phone wiring coming into this house is very very old I would guess the 70's. The wire has been painted that many times its well stuck to the skirting board. Is it Openreach who need to renew this or sky. We still need a landline as the wifi around here is a reguar drop out. But we're doing a house refub and this wire just has to go or be replaced. Can anyone surgest my line of action. Thanks in advance.

I dont want anyone to make it good for free, I just want it made so I keep the phone line and my broadband up and running. But it's a real mess and I cant see any point in just painting over it again. I'd love sky glass but its out of my price range just now.
Glass would use exactly the same line for broadband (unless you move to FTTP).
As I said, Openreach won't remedy the 'mess' even if you pay them: the most they will do is a 'master socket relocation' with a new line (probably) from the outside point to a prefiltered master. Removing subsequently redundant interior cable and filling/sanding/repainting damaged skirtingboard is either DIY or an external contractor job.

Note that Openreach won't do any 'making good' if they did remove such cabling because their staff are telecoms engineers, not painters and decorators: typically they'll run in a new line from the nearest distribution point and leave existing internal cable where it is.

This is the line coming in from outside into the porch to a very old oblong box which looks like phone socket then comes into the house and then runs along the skirting into an actual phone socket.
