Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

@MMMIIIUUUT check your Netgear is running firmware v1.0.4.28 or higher. You will find to configure the router you will need log into the web interface as the app and the wizards are unlikely to work. Given this is a feature added after launch it isn't documented in the manual. However there should be an entry for DHCP Option which is where you select the Option 61 and type the string anythin@skydsl|anything

If all of this is Greek to you at least intially simply connect the Sky hub to your new connection and then connect the Netgear to one of the Sky hub's ethernet ports and it should work but you will have what is known as a double NAT setup which works for most uses.

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

@JimM1  and @Chrisee . Thanks both - tomorrow is the day! Okay I really do not want two routers (defeats the object of what I am trying to achieve) and it should work connected directly connected to my Netgear R9000. I am running the latest firmware ( I checked that). Whilst i am not complete computer illiterate my concern is that I am receiving lots of advice but when i look at my login detaisl on teh R900 and for example look at DCHP settings i do not see e=what I was explained: Thanks again both

@MMMIIIUUUT

If you have got the sky message that you are live and with them they send a few bits off data out to the connected router and take over the connection, inform EE that's it we have the customer now and you are done, get the final bill finished and Bye -bye EE, You can sometimes see that router wise, as the IP and DNS change speed test etc may show, do the www.whatismyipaddress.com it will return something like below good sign they got you!

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

@MMMIIIUUUT When you get a minute good idea to logon to your sky account, under products you will see the Broadband Shield settings for internet access control, i always set to off, no restrictions, may take 24hrs to filter through the system, if you cannot set/change the account linking is not setup correct!

The sky hub is the crutch it's one off those you need sky to help then they need to see there hub hanging on the end off the line! Don't need them then just leave it in the box, welcome to sky and EE bye-bye!😁👍

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

@MMMIIIUUUT IpV6 you may just need a tweak on your hub settings, not all get it out of the bat, had to make a slight adjustment on my Asus to pass through. Will look at the pic when cleared for viewing!👍 Pic is through now! Up earlier in the post you will see how the settings are but Asus, so no idea what needs adjusting on your Netgear but you will have to tweak it if not getting it through to your Router!

So you can see that it does work and no confusion! So you can see that it does work and no confusion!

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

I guess i do have ipv4 but for teh life of me and as expected cannot find anything to do with option 61, i set teh ipv6 connect to auto detect - nothing set it ti DCHP - looked for anything to do with option 61 - nothing.... Things are a sexpected so not overly happy.

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

@MMMIIIUUUT Had a quick look at my iPv6 settings, and if i remember correctly on my Asus connected to the EE network i had it set on Passthrough mode but when on sky i had to go set it to Native! See if you have anything similar for the Netgear settings, DHCPV6 PD is what you want and forget about trying to use or find the MER option61 it is not needed... You will see my settings earlier in the post!

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

Just to let all you nice folks know who helped me that the Netgear R9000 is still running okay with Sky Broadband. I really did nothing at all. I also have to say that Netgear support were useless they knew nothing about option 61! So no Ipv6 but it's working! Thanks again everyone, now to get the Netgear Orbi 970 on Black Friday....

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

@MMMIIIUUUT Do consider Asus, way better than Orbi will ever be!

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

Which model? Like the Orbi only because I know the layout of the firmware and it's quad band.

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

I bought a TPLINK AXE75 i connected straigh away and detected the connection on initial setup (SKY FTTP 900) It has been rocksolid. I did not have to faff on with it to get a connection at all.

I do find when i enable IPV6 on the router for some reason my SKY pucks do not like it....everything else that connects works fine with IPV6 just not the Stream Pucks. I have reverted to just a IPV4 connection, and all works fine and dandy.

Easiest router setup ever to be honest.

Re: Using my own router instead of Sky supplied

@MMMIIIUUUT Unless you need anything specific for the internal network AX models on will work fine tri band is enough so XT8's onward are fine, your FF900 is the limiting factor Internet wise, and the Asus does this with speed below. Lot to be said though as you are familiar with the Netgear layout and happy with what they do, Orbi will get you on sky no issues at all!
