Using 2nd Sky Q Hub as access point

Hi there.

Is is there anyone able to give me step by step instructions on how to convert a second Sky Q Hub into an access point. It will be used with another Sky Q Hub. I have really poor wireless range and want to extend the range with this second Sky Q Hub.

Re: Using 2nd Sky Q Hub as access point

@JJ321

1. Select http://192.168.0.1 Advanced->LAN IP Setup

2. Change LAN IP Address: 192.168.0.254

3. Untick Use Router as DHCP Server.

4. Untick Enable IPv6 DHCP Server.

5. Apply the settings.

The above should be done on the secondary Sky Q router (AP) whilst connected by cable to a computer. Once this is done, carry onto 5 (remember whilst doing the above the Sky Q router AP (secondary) isn't connected to the main router).

5. Run a cable from the secondary Sky Q router (AP) ethernet port to an ethernet port on the main Sky Q router connected to the line.

Do what you like as far as channels, SSID and passwords for the wireless networks on each Sky Q router at:-

http://192.168.0.1 for the main Sky Q router connected to the line.

http://192.168.0.254 for accessing the Sky Q secondary access point (AP).

Re: Using 2nd Sky Q Hub as access point

Hi JJ321 I am also trying to use a second sky q router as access point and although I changed the settings as described and connect to the primary router and no internet . Just wondering if you could share your experience. Sky q router just does not seems to cover upstairs as well as BT home hub 6. Thank you in advance

Do the master and slave Sky Q boxes need to be connected via Ethernet cable or can it work wirelessly? Looking for a wireless solution preferably

Re: Using 2nd Sky Q Hub as access point

Should I leave ssid's to be different I had renamed to be the same thinking it may give a seamless transition going between but when I connect to the slave I get cannot get ip message

@Mark39 said it, not me. I've given up trying to connect the slave for now. I just couldn't get it to work Smiley Sad

Re: Using 2nd Sky Q Hub as access point

Perhaps @Mark39 can suggest something, however as far as I am aware if you use an old Sky router as a second AP it must be connected to the main router via an ethernet cable. The only way you are going to get a second wireless AP working without a cable is with Sky Q or a 3rd party system like Google WiFi or BT whole home WiFi.

Not sure what I had in mind there, but if you can't get it to work, then apologies. I don't have Sky broadband kit to be able to test it for myself.
