Use own router ( to be exactly: Mikrotik ).

Hi All,

I'm trying to connect my own router (Mikrotik) instead of Sky Hub router (SR203).
When I'm trying to conect my Mikrotik even the port is down. Because my router doesn't have RJ11 socket, I'm using an addapter RJ11 => RJ45 (maybe this could be the issue).

Can anyone help me on this? Any suggestions?

Many thanks,
Alex

Almost certainly, because that's not a legitimate cable adaptation for broadband.  If your router doesn't have an RJ11 socket that implies it has no internal modem, so cannot function by itself for FTTC (presumably being designed for cable/FTTP) and would require an external modem in order to connect to a phone line data signal.  The Draytek Vigor 130 is one such modem: others are available, and note the router has to be capable of passing MER/DHCP Option 61 authentication to Sky rather than the usual PPPoA/ PPPoE.

Thanks @TimmyBGood for explanation. So only thing that will help is to buy a modem and put it in front of Mikrotik?
I found something like this on Amazon, here : would this help me?

Thanks.

No: that's a somewhat pointless passive cable, not a modem (MOdulator/DEModulator).  A modem in this context is an active signal converter (i.e. a mains-powered box) which translates the VDSL data signal traveling long distances on phone wiring into a format which can transit locally over ethernet to/from the WAN port on the router: on typical ISP-supplied hardware such as a Sky Hub the active electronic circuitry required for this is built-in behind the RJ11 socket.

@AlexGR

Personally I would suggest you try to establish if your Microtik cable router is compatible with Sky FTTC at all, before potentially buying another non-functional box.
