Re: Upgrade to fibre - do I have to be in
If there isn't already an optical cable and ONT ('fibre modem') from either Openreach or CityFibre at the address then someone definitely need to be in, as there's drilling and internal installation to be carried out.

@Bluejen512 Not sure which one you are getting, but think that there is an install day video certainly from OR so worth a look at!.

Re: Upgrade to fibre - do I have to be in
If you do not have a small white box on your wall that is plugged into a socket and has a thin white cable going into it with a green plug onit, then you will need to be there, Openreach will normally contact you by automated messenging to confirm your appointment.
Depending on your area you may get two visits, one to do the external install of the fibre to the Customer Splice Point, which is a small grey box mounted to the outside of your house. Typically this will be next to where your existing phone line comes into your house. You won't need to be there for that one.
The second visit they will drill a small hole from the outside to inside your house and install an ONT on the other side, you will need to be there for that.
If you get a Openreach Hybrid engineer they willl install the external and the internal at the same time. In my area this is how its done, again you will need to be there as Openreach install some of their eqipment in to your house (the ONT). You plug your Sky router into the ONT to get your full fibre service.
I remember the Internet starting!
Sky Full Fibre & Virgin Media XGS-PON, with automatic failover using DrayTek multi WAN router.
Sky Q, which will be sadly missed when they decide to kill it off!
