Type of router

I have just joined Sky and received a model SR-203 router.  Connection is poor in some areas of my house and I want to try a wifi range extender. Some available are saying they are only suitable for wifi6 routers. How do I find out if mine is wifi6?

The Sky Broadband Hub model SR03/204 from 2019 is specified as WiFi 5 (802.11ac)

The 2023 Max Hub is WiFi 6 (802.11ax)

@DonB4 Also does not matter wi-fi 5/6 operation too much for the extender that you are going to get, it will connect in the mode required, just depends on if it likes the SR203 hub, Asus RP-AX58 works with that SR203 hub, is wi-fi 6 compatable just a little temperamental to set up, so will need to have the slight adjustment which is easy to do!

Re: Type of router

Thanks for the info. A shame Sky are palming new users off with an outdated design when the later one would probably solve my wifi reach problem. Their solution is to charge me an extra £4/m to eliminate a simple problem that I didn't have with my standard BT router.

WiFi 6 does not increase coverage so Sky giving you the SR203 does not affect your WiFi range issue.

Re: Type of router

Strange that Sky's £4/m solution involves changing my router for "the latest router".

Yes because its an optional extra to increase performance, give you access to boosters & give you functionality like parental controls. Its not required for functionality, much like you can spec optional extras on a vehicle, you dont need them for core functionality.
