Total Beginner - set up home mesh behind Sky Broadband Hub

Hi folks!

We have sky Q and the usual sky broadband hub. It's good, but it just doesn't reach the whole house no matter where we put it.

We recently had a renovation done and I have had some ethernet cable put in from the router position to the kitchen at the other end of the house. We would really like to "extend the reach of our wifi" so that it covers the whole house. As you can see, we're very new to all of this.

Thus far my research has indicated that setting up a home mesh would be a good idea. It seems something like this would do the trick https://amzn.eu/d/602JJ8O (a TP Link Deco 3-pack).

Now, our builder didn't install power with the ethernet cable. So this makes me think I will need some kind of POE solution too. Like this perhaps https://amzn.eu/d/d4zk4UA (TP Link 5 Port POE).

The general plan would then be to connect one of these TP things via the installed ethernet cable using POE, and position the other two elsewhere in the house connecting to the mesh via wifi.

This is pretty much where the extent of my technical know how ends!

I'd first be very grateful if someone could tell me whether this is even possible with the Sky Hub. I have read that because it's a router you can't just connect it to the 5 port POE and then plug the rest in and off you go using the TP app.

If it is possible any help, direction, tips, links to tutorials would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!

PS - we are currently out of contract with Sky so we do have options if this becomes a problem

Hi @SarahCFW

You would only need to use a PoE solution if its difficult for you to get a standard power cable to the location of the ethernet ports you have had installed. Additionally you'd need to ensure whatever you buy is PoE compatible as many wireless routers/access points dont have PoE built in for various reasons.
