Third party router or wifi mesh system advice for use with Sky max.
Hi Everyone,
I would like some advice in regards to getting the best wifi speed out of my Sky max broadband. I am currently on the biggest package I can have which is 900 mbps. My router is linked up in the living room and my computer is in my bedroom, it's not too far away probably about 10-15 meters but there is a room in the middle of that, so two walls but they are not that thick really. I have a sky max pod in my bedroom beside my computer and when in use I can get a wireless speed of between 400 – 500 mbps usually.
From what I understand the Sky max pods are really only good for up to 600 mbps so I am losing quite a lot of my internet speed really because of that. My son who stays in the middle room mentioned above can get about 700mbps as I suppose he is using the speed from the hub itself.
So to try to rectify this I bought a wifi mesh system, which in the end didn't work (TP Link X1500). It actually made my speed worse to the point where I was only getting 200 mbps and that was with one the 3 pods right beside my computer and one pod in my son's room in-between. I found out this is probably due to the fact that TP link systems don't use DCHPv4 option 61. In the end I took it back and got a refund. I tried this both as a router setup to replace the sky max hub and also as an access point. It didn't matter really, neither option worked.
TLDR -So long story short. What other third party products do people use to get the best out of their Sky max broadband. Either routers or wifi mesh systems I will consider.

@gdunlop1981 Do you need to keep the sky talk on your landline that is the first question that you need to answer?

@gdunlop1981 Search XT8 in the Forum you will find a couple setup pictures few months back now, and please forget about this just now ""don't use DCHPv4 option 61"" until all else is tried, it will be a very good possibility that NOT needed as old advice now!

Re: Third party router or wifi mesh system advice for use with Sky max.
Thank you for your response. I was perhaps expecting someone to answer back with an Asus or Netgear product because I think I have seen some mentioned before in other threads because they can handle DCHPv4 option 61. I wanted to do my research though since I tried something already that didn't work. Perhaps I can give the second one in your response a try to see it that helps out. I'll get a two pack since I would like one besides me for my work computer to plug into since it seems to want to plug into the sky max pod to stop from dropping out. That's probably got something to do with the security setting though.

@gdunlop1981 NO, your sky Max hub and the sky Max pod become defunct, do not use or combine products!
Goto asus site and download the whole product manual's from support, you get the full nothing hidden or stripped out, that is just why they are more expensive there is nothing extra ever required!

Sorry, I meant that I would have one act as a router and then have the second one besides my work computer to replace the sky max hub and pod.

@gdunlop1981 Yes the one next to and connecting to the ONT is the router, the other you add in with AI mesh, the BOX has a label on them and tells you THIS one must be setup Router mode off operation!

Hi JIm,
Very thankful for your help.
I guess this is the thread you want me to find with the settings.
Answered: Replacing sky hub with router | Sky Community
OK, as I understand it now. I don't need DCHPv4 settings for this work.

Re: Third party router or wifi mesh system advice for use with Sky max.
OK, so got the ASUS BD4 today and I've set it up. I'm using the IOT connection just now and getting 300 mbps. The other one was giving me 200 mbps. I'm not really sure whats is happening. I'ce set my settings up the same as mentioned in the other thread. I even changed the ethernet cable that I had with the one that came in the box but no luck.
Any more advice?

Re: Third party router or wifi mesh system advice for use with Sky max.
Hi Jim,
This is what I have now. It was asking me for an MTU so I used cmdprompt to ping google to find what my 0% loss was and added 28 as normal.
