If it was brand new in 2021 then chances are the WiFi adapter isnt the issue and more likely that its the adapter settings within Windows. You probably need to tell it to 'Prefer 5ghz' as to me it sounds like the PC is picking a 2.4ghz signal whereas other devices nearby like the Playstation are picking a 5ghz signal which is usually much faster and less prone to interference.

Re: Third party router or new powerline extender?

Yes, brand new thanks. I think you're onto something. I moved an older (2017) Desktop into his room yesterday to test that. I noticed that was also defaulting to the 2.4Ghz network,  (Still 20mbps, with 40mbps using the BT Extender thingy)

Watch this space.

Re: Third party router or new powerline extender?

Hi again again

Update- the internal WiFi adaptor cards on both our Windows desktops only support 2.4Ghz, so will order replacement card and try that.

If I eventually decide to add a third party router, do the Ethernet cables that currently run from SR203 go from the new router? (I know wifi devices will connect  to the new one, WiFi turned off on SR203 etc etc. Just not sure  about wired devices?  (Or doesn't it matter?)

Thank you

Depends how you decide to set it up. If you turn DHCP off on the Sky hub and use DHCP on your new router then the cables need to connect to the new router. If you decide to just use the new router as a WiFi access point for your devices then the cables can stay connected to the Sky hub.

Ok thanks. Will keep the cables connected to the SR203 then.

Re: Third party router or new powerline extender?

Hi

Just connected Asus (AX6000) to SR203. App was very easy to use but still ended up with a few glitches.

1. I can’t find a way to now log into SR203 to switch off the three WIFI settings. 192.168.0.1 just hangs. Was I meant to do this before Asus set up???

2. The settings in the app seem to be v limited. Can’t find the detailed wan and lan settings  that are often cited. Do I need to connect Asus to a pc to see these?

No idea if DHCP set up on new router?

(Have managed to put Asus in access point mode via the app)

Thanks

Hi

Update.

Managed to switch off the Sky WiFi in the router settings now. However, I can see the Sky router is still listed with the Asus in the WiFi settings on phone. Would you expect that?

No you wouldn't expect that. Did you switch off both 2.4ghz & 5ghz?

Re: Third party router or new powerline extender?

Hi

Forgot to switch off 5Ghz. Thought you'd spot that😀 That solved my other problem. (Windows pc unable to connect to Asus 5Ghz network) V good speed from that >100mbps.

I think my only issues are:

1. Can't get into hidden menu to disable Sky Q network.

2. Asus app settings don't provide the same info I've seen on here. (Pages to set wan and lan etc) The system settings on the app don't cover the same detail.

Thanks for your continued time and expertise.

@hapazard2

Sky Q hidden menu instructions;

- Press Home

- Scroll down to settings but DONT press select

- Type 001 on your remote

- Press select

Does this work for you?

The asus app doesnt have all settings on it, you would need to login to the web admin interface to see all the settings like you've seen screenshots of on the forum.

However if you are keeping your Asus router connected to the Sky hub instead of connecting it directly to your line then you should not need to change any WAN settings

Re: Third party router or new powerline extender?

Cheers. Yes need SR203 as landline connected to it,

Noted re settings- guess I'd navigate to 192.168.0.101, which seems to be the Asus address?

Re: Third party router or new powerline extender?

Forgot to say I can't get to hidden menu with 001. No response whatsoever when doing that.

Thanks

What do you mean no response when doing it? It wont do anything when you type 001 it will only do something when you press select after

Didnt realise you had to hit select after 001😀😀 Showing my advanced years again. Managed to switch the WiFi settings off on the Q box.

Will now leave you in peace.

Many thanks

Re: Third party router or new powerline extender?

Hi again

Hope it's ok to resurrect this. Ironically, the only device we have connection problems with is the Sky Q box. It was previously connected via ethernet from the SR203, but wanted to get the benefit of the new Asus being in the same room.

I connect Sky Q to the 2.4 network and it connects. However, when the TV is off for a while Sky Q loses connection. I tried to switch off the 2.4 and 5Ghz settings in Sky Q hidden menu, but it just hangs trying to save the changes. Perhaps I need to do that while it's connected via ethernet, then fiddle with the WiFi settings in Sky Q??

I hope it's not a compatibility issue with the AX6000.

Any ideas?

Thank you.
