Taking over the broadband line if the previous provider terminated contract
My previous broadband provider (NOW TV) refused to terminate my broadband service 10 days before my new Sky broadband was connected, saying that if they disconnect me, Sky won’t be able to take over the line. Is that true?
Here's exactly what they said:
I can see that there is already a cease in progress on your services and it shows the line is being taken over by another provider on 20/03/24.
With this being in progress, if you still wanted to cancel your services with Now Broadband this would also stop the new provider from taking over the active line.
As the new provider has requested we cease the services on this date, it will also cancel everything down for you with Now Broadband.
The reason I'm asking, I've had a bad experience with NOW TV, and now they still trying to charge me £39 every day for 10 days of internet (from 10/03 to 20/03, however I requested to disconnect me on 10th). That is ridiculous. So my question is: is it true what they said?

Cancellation of the existing ISP does mean it's a new order, not a 'switch', and new orders do have a minimum ten working days lead time during which there can't be any broadband service.

Typically an ISP will bill for the next full period and then refund pro-rata.
I assume that's £39 for a month rather than per day.

Yes you can't switch & cancel at the same time.
You can organise a switch where the connection moves from your old provider to new on the same day and your old provider stops billing on the same day as your new provider starts billing.
Or you can cancel your current provider and wait until the service stops then take out a new provider and wait the 14 day lead time for them to connect you.
