TP Link AC2800 connection to Sky

I just ordered Sky today but somehow my activation date is tomorrow and I have no Sky router ( they are sending one out but I had to find out that one was not ordered due to a technical issue on Sky's side when I ordered the new connection )

After speaking with the provisioning team they have confirmed that until the sky router turns up I can use my TP-Link AC2800 to connect to Sky for a couple of days (minus digital voice until the sky router turns up).  I just want to make sure that it's going to be able to connect.  I know there's the option between (MER) and just regular SKY VDSL and the AC2800 does support Option 61 so I was wondering if there's a guide to make sure I don't end up losing my connection for a couple days

Not the best start back but at least I am back eh 😄

@Aurynfire You don't happen to have an old ER110/115 sky Q lying about, would get you out off a hole should it go down on you with the Tp-Link.

You could also hope that even if sky activate until you throw the sky Router on hope that the Tp-Link stay's up but absolutely no messing about with it during the period....

Re: TP Link AC2800 connection to Sky

Sadly I do not but by the sound of things the new router will be here by Monday so I'll just have to go without digital voice for a couple days, my friend has a spare SR203 but I dont know how that would work with the digital voice.  I'll just have to hope everything goes well with the AC2800

@Aurynfire The spare SR203 will be the way to go, and you may have 24-48hrs for the voice system to all filter through correctly to the landline anyway. After that you can take time to see if you can get the Tp-Link on, but for sure NO voice if you are trying to use the VDSL port on it. One off the big problems having the line change over to voice supplied from the hub.

@Aurynfire TP-Link modem routers do support option 61 so are straightforward to connect if you want simply use a string in the form anything@skydsl|anything.

Any Sky hub will also connect simply plug them in if your new service has Sky's digital voice service just olug a standard phone into the back of the SR203 rather than into the wall socket. Hubs are not preconfigured for each customer Sky use the line id to authorise connection.

The odd thing is Openreach activating a line in a day or so which is very unusual to say the least as there is nirmally a 14 days delay.

Re: TP Link AC2800 connection to Sky

@Chrisee Quickness off the changeover was one that nearly caught me out and from sky as normal yes 14 day's then all off a sudden day or so later, we will be switching your service etc, ordered 5th - live 10th, so a bit off a rush hub got dispatched rapid, had 1 day to set it up and then the text from Sky/OR you are now live, but did take my time before changing over to the SR203 / EE Service swap and the EE Smarthub+ stayed up and alive until i changed over, then the let's hope no issue's, and there was none, Internet established, shortly after FW updated and fine from then on... All on FF so really did not expect to much drama.

@JimM1 it is so quick to be suspicious but hopefully it works as planned.

Re: TP Link AC2800 connection to Sky

@Chrisee Certainly threw me for a loop when i saw how quick it was also, but with the no need to do much, OR must have been quite and the let's just do it now, caught with the pant's down, no way to get anything out that quick for delivery!

Re: TP Link AC2800 connection to Sky

Friend still had his SR203 so he gave me to me to try and its working perfect, phone and all.  By the way there's a rumor going around that Sky is updating their routers again soon, any confirmation on that?

Re: TP Link AC2800 connection to Sky

@Aurynfire Yes that is a rumour and no doubt it is on the cards for the way forward, but with you having a fttc cable connection then that pipe is never going to get any better what so ever!

Take it you got all the activation, you are now live and on the sky system. Phone is good, incoming / outgoing calls all working straight out the bat!

Still not received the Sky hub yet, may give provisioing a call cause you'd expect it to be here by now EVEN if its send by Royal Fail 😛

Still no new Sky Router delivery

I am now 11 days into my sky FTTP connection and I am still waiting for the new router to come.  I was able to borrow a SR203 from a friend so I can have the phone connection as well but I have heard nothing from Sky.  I have called the dedicated provisioning team twice who told me both times that my router was ordered and on its way but I have heard nothing.  What do you guys think I should do?

The reason it was not sent out when I actually ordered Sky FTTP was according to the provisioning team "a technical error with the website"
