I recently agreed a new contract of £30.50 a month, which they said includes a discount of £5 a month. I was on the website and it says Superfast Broadband is frozen at £25 a month. All seems a bit crooked

No it doesn't.
Also the speed is dreadful

which is not the speed that Sky own test shows

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSky doesn't do 'fixed' pricing: it's whatever they are prepared to offer to any particular subscriber at the time they signed up. If you believed you were accepting an offer of a price different to what you are paying now then you need to complain to them.
A nearly symmetrical speed at the Hub would be an error condition because all domestic broadband is delivered hugely asymmetrically, but is quite possible on WiFi.
If you post your Hub stats, we'll have some information about your particular phone line and internet connection to work with.
Note that it's speed arriving at the Hub which counts against the minimum speed guarantee, not speed test website results on a wireless device.

Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed (Kbps) 79999 19999
Your connection at the Hub is as fast as FTTC can be: 80Mbs inbound and 20Mbs outgoing. You must be living very close to the fibre cabinet.

OK thanks for the information. I was trying to watch US Open on Amazon last night and it was almost constantly buffering so I was not amused.

Find out moreAs you appear to only be using WiFi (there's no traffic shown in the Hub stats for LAN) then that's unfortunately quite possible: you should try the steps outlined by Sky to attempt to resolve wireless issues, and in particular changing the frequency bands on which the Hub is broadcasting.

You mean switching the router off and on, or something else?

You could try a wired connection from the router to your computer and see what sort of speed you are getting. That way, you'd know if it might be an issue with WiFi.
