Struggling to get broadband service offers above 11mbps

Hi all,

I moved in to a property that's never had internet before. My adjacent neighbours have Sky broadband but it says mine is unavailable. I have checked on BT broadband checker and we're all using the same cabinet so unsure what to do here?

I have been offered 11mbps from TalkTalk which is simply not fast enough. I can't find any other providers in the area.

I have tried Vodafone's 5G gigacube and the speed was extremely temperamental. Lowest speed came to 7mbps, highest 42mbps. I tried the gigacube at my friends house and it reached over 110mbps so I sent it back as I didn't want to be stuck on a 24m contract. I even checked my house on the 5G map and it is in a grey area for indoor 5G. I knew this before buying the gigacube but was trying to find some hope!

I work from home a lot and there are 4 of us in the house streaming Netflix, etc usually but been unable to do this since moving.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated here as I'm stuck.

@JiveChocbars If Fibre is not available to your home address, and the Green street cabinet is all sold out on the fttc so not available to you then adsl the slowest of the slow is all that will be offered, and you will not get any better!

If it's in the UK, putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which broadband provisioning type is available.

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.

Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

Hi, there, I have had a look and this is what it says. Although, I have no idea what it really means. Am I doomed for slow internet speeds?

There is potentially 40 Mbps on a waiting ,list.  It means you need to keep an eye on that link and as soon as "waiting list" turns to "available" contact sky.  Waiting list means all the slots at the cabinet are in use and you need to wait until another customer moves off openreach

Re: Struggling to get broadband service offers above 11mbps

Hi, thanks for explaining. That is rather frustrating, my house is  1 of 3 houses down the street that does not receive signal for indoor 5g so my options are .. well, I don't really have any alternative options other than really bad internet in 2025.

There maybe options, albeit expensive

(1) Starlink

(2) Mobile phone antenna

Sky Stream
1000/115 FTTP (Aquiss) to Zyxel DX3301
3 x Asus XT9s + 2 x RT-AC58U V3 for WiFi (AP mode)
65" Samsung S92C OLED TV
C430 Samsung soundbar with subwoofer
6 other streaming TVs
43+ network connected devices

That's unfortunately correct: expanding FTTC capacity isn't a priority these days because that technology is largely going to be replaced by FTTP in the next 16 months anyway.
