Some devices in the home won't recognise or connect to the new router

The internet connection and speed is great on the devices that connect, but we have a couple of laptops and one can't even see it in the list of devices, the other can find it, but will not connect to it....any ideas?

Hi @LouEllison

What models are these devices? It could be an incompatibility issue

Well one is an old hp netbook - hp 11-d 0 1 0 na (it shows many other networks available just not ours!).

The other is HP Ver 10.21H2.64.1.1- which is a work issued laptop- so could this be to do with firewall and security?

@LouEllison

So the first model laptop you mentioned is very old, it only supports WiFi b/g/n which means it will be incompatible with the Sky Max hub unless you change the WiFi security mode and possibly disable 5ghz WiFi which could reduce your speed quite significantly.

The second laptop you've mentioned is the version of Windows its on, not the model number. The model number will likely be on a sticker somewhere.

Ok thanks that's useful to know. Just in process of trying to upgrading windows on it but may not be worth it!

Ok I found this for the other one: HP EliteBook 830 06

Which version of Windows was it on before? Upgrading the Windows version is unlikely to solve much.

As for your work laptop, this one should work however I have had experience with HP laptops refusing WPA3 in my corporate environment so I would recommend you go onto the My Sky app, go to your router settings and change the security mode to WPA2, then try again.

It's on windows 8.

Ok thank you, yes I will give that a try.

Thanks so much for looking into it!

Windows 8 doesnt support WPA3 so upgrading it to Windows 10/11 could solve the issue but since the network card in that laptop is so old I would doubt it very much.

I would also note that Windows 8 went end of life in January 2023 meaning it hasnt had security updates for almost 2 years. This would make it very insecure to connect to the internet and could lead to being hacked.
