Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
I had Sky Gigafast installed in January, and have been trying to figure out a few things. Including, how I check my download speeds into the router, and also, why i am only getting a max of 150mb/s d/l speed on all my devices.
These speeds have been checked on Ookla speed test, Fast.com & google speed checker. It is similar speeds on both my phone, and my PC which is connected via wifi, with the booster sat about 10cm from my wifi signal arms for my PC.
I would consider myself tech savy, and am confident that there is a problem somewhere.
Any help would be well recieved.
Many thanks.

@Chris1711 If your PC is that close why do you not connect it via ethernet cable. You are always going to get better speeds connected that way.

It's 900mps to the hub, but the more you have connected to it but wifi or ethernet cable would each take some

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
It is that close to the booster, which, frustratingly, does not have ethernet, which is one of the 2 reasons i requested a booster.

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
@peter-marlow+1966 I'm sorry, but with a guarentee of 600mbps, and paying for 900mbps, getting 150mbps shows there is an issue. Currently, only my PC is using the bandwith. You are telling me that the 2 smart phones which are currently idle, my 2 alexa hubs and some hue lights are using minimum 450mbps of bandwith?

@Chris1711 Is the PC when connected and doing the test connected via ethernet or Wi-Fi?

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
@Highlinder Connected via WiFi. However, surely still not right? I used to get 450mbps on my old BT setup on WiFi. that was on a 500mbps plan. If these speeds are considered normal on a sky setup for 900mbps plan, with a booster sat right next to my PC, then I think i'll exersize my consumer rights and cancel.

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
@Chris1711 Can you connect it for a short period via Ethernet please and then test it again to see what speed you are getting.

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
I have lugged my PC downstairs and plugged into the router via ethernet. showing at 920mbps.
Any ideas on how to increase the speeds of my WiFi devices? I have made a tweak on my router settings, and have got an increase to around 200mbps, but still not the 600mbps minimum average advertised.

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
@Chris1711 Why is the booster so close to the PC it is supposed to be between the router and the PC to give you the best chance of a decent Wi-Fi signal. The booster acts as the relay from the router to your PC.

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
The booster isn't for the PC it's just at the central part of my network, and allows me to connect the outdoor security cameras which would otherwise loose connection frequently without a booster.

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
After further diagnostics last night and today, I have managed to get my speed up to 300mbps via wifi on my phone, and the PC. However, after moving the PC back upstairs, I have again dropped to 150mbps on my PC. The phone remains at 300mbps.
As mentioned previously, my previous provider, BT, ran very well, using 3 boosters, and connecting my PC via ethernet through the disk. The package was 500mbps, and normally ran around 450-500mbps almost all the time, quicker than my current sky setup which I can't use Ethernet through the boosters.
I am fully aware that there can be a drop in speed over WiFi and it is less reliable than ethernet, but because Sky don't provide ethernet ports on their boosters (which I find baffling) it is not an option without ripping my house apart to feed ethernet cables up to my office.
If someone could offer some advice on how to improve the speeds to my WiFi devices, that would be very much appreciated.

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
@Chris1711 Yes a lot of users have said that it was a bad move to take away the ability to connect the booster via hardwire. Have you looked into using powerline adapters?

Re: Slow download speeds on Gigafast 900 mb/s
Ordered a gigabit powerline adapter last night, came today and it is giving me 40mbps. The ring for the house all runs on 1 circuit, and i have used them before and got better speeds with a 300mbps device. Will be giving sky a ring tomorrow.
