Sky speed checker gives false results

There is a big storm at the moment and this evening for about 4 hours the internet has been painfully slow. All speed checker sites show a download speed of less that 2Mbps, upload appears fine at over 20Mbps. The Sky tool is clocking 152Mbps (my plan is limited to 150). Why is this? Is it just falsified?

@Munki__ it isnt false but if you look at the test you will see a time when the test was run. A 150Mb/s service will actually run at up to 165Mb/s but roughly 8% of that speed is required for overheads so you will see speeds marginally over 150Mb/s.

It is unusual for what is probably a full fibre service to drop in bad weather unless there is network damage but you would lose the connection totally.  Contention with other customers on your distribution point could account for a loss to around 120Mb/s but 2Mb/s is essentially impossible. If you are on a partial fibre G.Fast service then those remarks do not apply

Could the issue have been in your home network like another device hogging bandwidth or a WiFi issue?

Re: Sky speed checker gives false results

It is full fibre (FTTP). It could have been WiFi related, if the Sky speed check is the only one that measures speed from the router rather than the device. Online sky diagnostics said all my devices were performing well with strong connection but third party speed checkers show data was moving but incredibly slowly. I am back to 150Mbps with 3rd party speed checks on my devices this morning with no network or device changes. I think this is an issue on the sky end. I use a Deco mesh network and can see real time traffic stats for every device, I couldn't see high usage on anything.
