Sky router forcing Firestick to use the weaker Wifi band, which is too slow.
In the room where my firestick is, there is very poor reception of the 5Ghz signal, but fine reception of the 2.4Ghz. I sometimes get buffering in Youtube, whenever I have a problem, it always turns out that the firestick is using 5Ghz, and the speed is about 10Mbs, which apparently isn't fast enough for 4K Youtube streams. Sometimes I can resolved the issue temporarily by rebooting the firestick, causing it to switch to 2.4Ghz. Typically the 2.4Ghz speed is over 60Mbs. My internet connection is 74 Mbs fibre.
So, as far as I'm concerned, if only the firestick would use 2.4Ghz 100% of the time, I would never have a problem. Problems only ever happen when it switches to the weaker 5Ghz signal. The internet told me that it is the router that decides how devices connect, and Sky has locked down the router so I cannot make any of the changes that might resolve this, so I am blaming the router for this. (I have the new white Sky router.)
The best solution I have for resolving the issue is to plug a spare access point I have into the router via ethernet, and configure that to only put out a 2.4 Ghz wifi signal, then configure the Firestick to only use the access point SSID. But I don't want to do that: I don't want to create a second 2.4Ghz signal 2 feet away from the perfectly functional router one just so that I can reliably use the 2.4Ghz band. I want Sky to sort out their router software so that this problem goes away. What can I do to resolve this?
(To forestall other suggestions, there is no intermediate place to plug in 5Ghz repeaters, any reliable wifi path between the two rooms will have to use 2.4 Ghz, one way or another. I have in the past used powerline between these rooms, and that is not reliable enough. I have long experience of getting internet to my TV, and by far the most reliable is a direct connection to the router via 2.4Ghz. Any other devices in the path tend to be extra points of failure. I'm not even 100% sure that using my "best solution" above won't fall into this category. I've never needed to try this solution before because in the past I was able to split SSIDs on the router.)

It seems unlikely that Sky will add an option to permanently split and rename bands on the Max Hub: presumably they have some reason why this wasn't carried over from the previous models.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

@cjk472 By far the best solution is to buy from Amazon the Ethernet adapter kit for the Firestick and with it being so close to the Hub Ethernet connect the two devices, you will never ever have to worry about wireless ever again. Not sure if the adapter comes with an Ethernet cable so just have a look at the adapter contents to what is in the box!
