Sky redirecting capacity at domestic premises. I pay for superfast 500mbps and I’m averaging 3.8mbps
Everything has been slow to load and buffer today. I check my devices, those that I can and I'm averaging 3.8mbps.
I go on to the app to do a WiFi test, once complete, I'm over 100mbps. Still woefully short of what I pay for but clearly the app is giving Sky a nudge to reroute some of the capacity to my home. I understand peak periods etc but if I'm paying for a service as advertised, I expect to receive it else I should be receiving a discount surely??

@Mike2025 interesting theory but almost certainly far from the actual reason for the results you observe. When you run a speed test oon a device the result you get is the slowest part of the connection from the test server to your device. In most cases that is the WiFi connection between the device and the hub. The way these tests work means the speed will vary while they are running and the only valid result is the one displayed when the test completes.
If you want to check speeds reliably run a test like the one Ookla (speedtest.net) run over a direct ethernet connection to your hub with no other device connected as devices can use downtime to run updates etc. WiFi speeds are not guaranteed in the same way as the speed varies due to the layout of your home and the type of construction.
Sky routinely tests your connection speed and post the results in the Connection Check in the My Sky app or if you have a blackSky hub you can see its connection stats at anytime using the instructions here Sky Hub statistics.

Re: Sky redirecting capacity at domestic premises. I pay for superfast 500mbps and I’m averaging 3.8
Thanks Chrisee,
whilst I accept that the speed to the hub will have a different capacity than the speed between the devices and the hubs. I have, in the past had in excess of 400 mbps to my laptop alone. My suspision lays in the fact that every single time - without fail, I perform a speed test via the app, I have a significant boost within a few minutes of those checks being performed. This isn't just an isolated incident. This happens routinely.
today I have 7 devices connected, even those not doing anything such as my fire stick upstairs, will be having some sort of drain but between my phone, laptop and tv all being between 3.5 and 4 on the same speed test website is madness given the package supplied and via fibre-optic.
perform the tests, almost immediately there is an improvement which brings me to my thoughts on capacity.
yes they routinely test and they even advertise the time of those tests, what they don't do is advertise the speeds of those tests, only that they are ok.
Now, 100mbps is more than ok of course, but that is not what I pay for... therein lies my issue and why should I have to perform such tests via the app in order to stream a movie on the tv without interruption, which up until those tests via- did not happen.
I have fibre optic to my router. I pay for superfast. During the movie only 6 devices connected (not the laptop. Aside from my phone and TV, all other would be on minimal draw being dormant / standby.
this is my issue.
