Sky broadband not available at address its in use
Hi,
i'm moving to a new property in the next couple of weeks (renting) and when i was told by my current broadband provider (virgin) they can't supply to my address, i spoke to my estate agents who advised that the flat i am going to move to, the current tenants there are using sky broadband.
i have tried to sign up so i can get sky broadband set up when i move in (as of course the current contract will just go with the tenants when they leave) but the website is telling me that sky broadband isn't available at my address.
of course, i know it is as the tenants are using it but i've not used sky before so wanted to find out how i can get around this and get it setup?
thanks anyone for any help/advice

Re: Sky broadband not available at address its in use
It is possible that if the previous tenants have been their for a while then the broadband speeds is too low for new customers
It could also be that the flat has been. Is registered by the landlord or previous occupants and it is not unknown for letting agents to give new tenants the wrong flat number or postcode
have you checked the address you have been given is registered with Royal Mail and if so on the openreach website for and indication of what is available?
if you are having difficulties placing and order online that it would be best to call sky or visit a retailer if there is one in a shopping centre near you so they can check the address details

Re: Sky broadband not available at address its in use
@Zoea1 Until the current residents cancel or arrange to move their Sky broadband service you can't place an order.

Re: Sky broadband not available at address its in use
As GD1 replied to your post did you read that.
As the current tennants have broadband currently, you will not be able to get until they CANCEL the
broadband with SKY, this will also apply to any ISP that uses the OR telephone/fibre connection.
You should speak to the estate agent regarding this situation, and look to get an alternative in place
until you can sign up, ie Mobile broadband, tether your mobile etc
You may try calling sky with the address details, they may know of the current status, but sometimes
the leaving tenants forget to do it and then you will have more delays.

Re: Sky broadband not available at address its in use
@Zoea1 one explanation is the current Sky service is delivered over a copper line using FTTC and the fibre cabinet is fully sold which means the connection the current resident is using goes to the next person on the waiting list. This is increasingly common as Openreach have cut investment in the copper network. Putting the full address into thie following checker will show if that is the case look for the line starting VDSL and check the far right availability column. Openreach Checker

Re: Sky broadband not available at address its in use
Okay, thank you all for your comments that really helps. Just so stressful as it seems like I'm going to live somewhere without internet for a long time lol
The replies have been helpful. I'll check with the estate agents when the tenants move out date is perhaps and try and call sky around that time to see if I can get on the list.

Re: Sky broadband not available at address its in use
@Zoea1 you can check now by simply by entering the address into the chacker I linked to. If broadband connectivity is important you can run that check before even viewing properties.

Re: Sky broadband not available at address its in use
@Zoea1 you have cut off the left hand column but those lines look like ADSL2 services ie basic broadband that Sky often now declines to sell for new connections. Your alternatives would be mobile broadband unless Virgin Media or another network is available.

Re: Sky broadband not available at address its in use
As you are in a copper withdrawal area openreach have stopped selling new connections in that area so sky and any other provider that uses openreach will be unable to sell a adsl product
