Sky broadband hub & access points

Hi Folks,

I'm about to move into a new build home. I have already moved my sky broadband and tv over and was wondering if anyone had any advice for me.

The sky wifi currently is working however cuts out slightly when i go to the other side of the house as the box is housed in the utility room which is at one end of the property.

I have ethernet cables ran to all tv locations in the house, as well as provisions for 4 access points to cover the wifi.

I was wondering if there are any switches and AP's which would work as close to a plug and play option as possible?

I was planning on going down the ubiquiti route for AP's and switch however it seems they can be a lot of hassle setting up and maintaining. Ideally i just want to set and forget and have the one single wifi network thorughout the house and each individual wired ethernet port working too.

Hope that makes sense. thanks in advance.

I would still recommend Ubiquiti, their APs can just join a network easily and you don't have to manage them after installing

Unifi is specifically a managed solution, so it requires managing.

I'd suggest unmanaged gigabit ethernet switches and then a four node WiFi mesh kit.

Deploying a UniFi AP without a UniFi controller essentially makes it unmanaged. Its really easy to just setup in the app and leave it to do its thing.

Re: Sky broadband hub & access points

so i can buy some unifi AP's and an unmanaged switch, such as a netgear or TP link?

Sky Hub > Netgear switch > UB AP

and

Sky Hub > Netgear switch > wall ethernet socket

it will all work in a simple manner with minimal tinkering?

Should do although most UniFi APs are PoE so you'd need a PoE switch unless your running both ethernet and seperate power to them

Until Ubiqui breaks it with a firmware update...

Personally I'd suggest a civilian mesh rather than Unifi hardware, but then before my recent career change I spent far too much time messing about with around 100 of their APs, switches and cameras.

I dont disagree with you but I have previously deployed a 3x AP setup in a family members home and I have never once for the last 4yrs had to mess around with it, only ever a power cycle here and there. Pot luck I guess

Re: Sky broadband hub & access points

I have just moved to sky from virgin media - I have a similar set up - with 4 UB access point AC Lite. Currently my Virgin hub is set as a router and the access points are connected to the wall via a poe - each one - the access points are all connected to my WiFi ssid.

now I am with sku max hub and do not n ow how to change the access points to look at the sky max hub and also i have read the sky hub cannot be change to a router? Is this an issue?

I am hoping someone could walk me through the changes?

Sorry but your message doesnt make a whole lot of sense...

"now I am with sku max hub and do not n ow how to change the access points to look at the sky max hub" Is this you asking how to change the SSID of your UB access points? If so thats a question for Google/UB Support.

"have read the sky hub cannot be change to a router? Is this an issue?" Not sure what you mean by this at all, Sky Hubs are routers.
