Sky booster Gigabit rated??

I just upgraded to Hyper Fast 500mb fibre (from 70 mb package). I have a booster unit I received about 18 months ago which worked well on the previous package. I know how to use/position the booster as I am pretty tech savvy. However now when I plug/pair it the speeds GO DOWN in my living room where its located, vs just having the base router on.

My summation is that the boosters are just not rated at that high a level? Can anyone confirm and do they do an uprated version?

I am also struggling to get my homeplugs going anywhere faster than old speeds even though they are supposedly gigabit rated - assume wiring limitations.

Yes thats more than likely going to happen because boosters are designed to increase your WiFi coverage and stability at the sacrifice of speed. Currently these are the only boosters Sky do so you'll either need to live with the speed loss, not use them or look at purchasing a 3rd party WiFi mesh system that has WiFi 6.

Powerline is limited by your wiring yes so your very unlikely to get more than 100mbps usually.

Re: Sky booster Gigabit rated??

thanks - going slightly off topic - but do these mesh systems play nicely with Sky routers/Q boxes etc. It'll be my luck to spend £200 and the Sky kit wont talk to it properly

Usually fine yes as long as you use one or the other. If you try to use both the Sky mesh & 3rd party mesh at the same time it can cause issues

Sky wireless boosters are 802.11ac and built to a budget where they can be loaned 'free'.  The Q booster dates from 2016 (and is a really bad shape) while the Broadband Booster is from 2019: neither is going to be a match for recent mesh hardware and realistically there's no way they are going to be adequate for slinging the faster FTTP data rates around a property, but then neither are the Q and Sky Broadband Hub.  Worth remembering that the Sky WiFi Guarantee is for a whole 3Mbs, while Q Mini boxes need 10Mbs at most, and that's what the Sky booster hardware was intended to support.

I have some AV1200 powerlines and the best speed I can get with them is 120 Mbps.

Manufacturer labelling of Powerline is ridiculous even by the usual standards of such things: presumably they only have a gigabit ethernet chipset which makes '1200' bogus from the start...

Same here except I can only get about 50-60mbps
