Sky Wifi Max and Gigafast
Hello,
Our broadband contract is due for renewal next month so we've started to check out our options. I thought I'd try and see if we can upgrade to WiFi Max but apparently that isn't compatible with a Gigafast account, which absolutely makes no sense to me? Surely the latest hub should be compatible with a full fibre account?
We also have Sky Q and 3 mini-boxes soI'm sure that is why WiFi Max can't be added to our account - but the Sky person I just spoke to was adamant that it's Gigafast and not Sky Q that is stopping us from adding WiFi Max.
Could any learned people please confirm?

Re: Sky Wifi Max and Gigafast
@123mg the agent is incorrect you can most definitely have Sky WiFi Max with Gigafast is likely to be the limitation is the number of Sky Q boxes you have.
The new Wifi Max router is not compatable with the Sky Q mesh only the main Q box can connect to the hub's WiFi the Q ninis have to connect to the main Q box by 5GHz wifi the Q wifi hotspots are lost. Sky have gradually increasing the number of Q boxes that they allow with WiFi Max but still on occasions the computer will not allow an order to go through especially if you have older Sky boosters on your account. The agent clearly was not up to speed on the various issues around WiFi Max.
You can try phoning again and hope you get a better informed agent but I suspectvyou maybecstuck forca short while as we expect Sky to lift the limitation at some point however Sky Q and WiFi Max are always going to be a cludge as the old technology Q uses is the main issue.

Re: Sky Wifi Max and Gigafast
Thanks @Chrisee does it make any difference if you connect the Sky Q Silver box to the WiFi Max hub via ethernet? I assume you then connect the mini boxes either via wifi to the silver or via ethernet too?

Re: Sky Wifi Max and Gigafast
Hi, I have Sky Q with 3 mini's and I was able to order WiFi max online 2 weeks ago. All mine are connected with power line adapters with WiFi switched off and have been working fine.
Hope this helps 🙂

Re: Sky Wifi Max and Gigafast
Thanks. Bit confused, do you have Sky BB or Talk talk? How are your minis connected using powerlines please?

Re: Sky Wifi Max and Gigafast
I'm on sky max gigabyte now. Just need to update my signature. I have these power line adapters, one connects directly to your router and the others round the house where the mini's are.

Powerline networking involves plug-in adapters to allow mains cable to move data between sockets.

And yes the power line adapters are connected directly to the mini's.
My sky q is connected to the router via a TP-Link TL-SG1008D, 8 Port Gigabit Ethernet Network Switch.

Re: Sky Wifi Max and Gigafast
@123mg Hard wiring the Q boxes definitely will simplfy your network whether using ethernet cables to the hub, powerline adapters or indeed linking the boxes to Sky Max pods. My understanding was Sky had dropped the limitations on ordering Sky WiFi Max for customers with multiple Sky Q boxes which @SandeepG confirms.
I would call again during working hours query the refusal to supply and hopefully this time you getvan agent who will understand how thecsystem works. If you dont postvagain finger myself or @TimmyBGood as we can draw our Sky contact's attention to the issue.
