Sky Q equipment and Full Fibre upgrades

If i choose a Full Fibre provider outside of a Sky package, will i need to upgrade my existing Sky router and Sky Q box/miniboxes throughout the house to support faster speeds?

Your Sky router is not relevant to a different ISP.

There are no 'upgrades' to Q television hardware, and the 'Q mesh' (which dates back to 2016) cannot sling anything like full-fibre (500Mbs or 'gigabit') speeds around.

Note that where Sky isn't the ISP the Q Hotspot functionality becomes optional and is switched off by default: you'd be best leaving this off and running modern WiFi6 mesh hardware if required.

Re: Sky Q equipment and Full Fibre upgrades

So if I move to FTTP through let's say EE and signup for speed of 100MB, are you saying the Sky hub/equipment won't boost my current speeds to this level?  Sorry I really don't understand this broadband stuff, I don't want to move to a supplier and find out I still can't improve in my 27MBs I get today

If you move to EE as an ISP then you'll be sent an EE router by EE.  The Sky Hub stops working and Sky will want it back.

Your broadband speed will depend on what EE is delivering to their router and how well it does WiFi.

The Q television boxes become simple wireless clients and use the speed delivered by EE.  You can choose to have them act as hotspots if you wish, and they'll probably manage 100Mbs.
