Sky Q x 1
Mini boxes x 3
Router SR203
Sky Ultrafast 500mb
New build house 2023
TP Link RE700X Range extender / Access Point x 1
TP Link 6 port hub used with 5 ethernet connected cable all going to wall sockets in different rooms
Scenario:
I can access internet speeds over wi-fi at 500mb from my TP Link Access Point, connected to one of the wall sockets linked to the TP Link 6 port hub.
I have 500mb wifi speeds and 500mb ethernet cable speeds at both the access point (TP Link RE700X) and the main Sky router (SR203)
Here is the issue and I can't understand why its happening.
As soon as I plug in an ethernet cable into the Sky Q box or any of the mini boxes the access point speeds drop by around 50%.
I have tried a different 6 port hub to see if the original hub was faulty and that had the same issue. So it wasn't the 6 port hub.
I have tried changing the TP Link RE700X Access point and again the porblem persist so it wasn't the access point.
I have plugged in any of the 3 TV's all with ethernet conenctions, conencting a TV via ethernet cable to a wall socket connected tothe 6 port hub, DOESNT affect the speed. Even with all three conencted.
So it seems there is a link between connecting sky Q or mini via ethernet cable affecting the speed at my access point.
My laptop has Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
I have used a couple of speed test websites all with the same result.
So my question is. Does anyone know why plugging in a Sky Q or Sky Mini box via an ethernet cable would reduce wifi speeds or wired speeds?
If I've missed any detail, then happy to porvide more.
Just to add, I can connect and currently do conenct all sky devices using Wifi ( they work well but due to historical connection issues I would prefer ethernet and thought I should be able to do so)

@Pottersapp a number of customers have reported similar issues with speed reductions when Sky Q boxes are hard wired. It would appear to be connected with the way Sky Q networking works. Sky Q was developed around 2015 and uses what is now a discontinued proprietary networking system. Sky have stopped development of the system as the future of satellite broadcasting in the UK is under 5 years,

Re: Sky Q & Ethernet impact on speed
Thank you for the reply.
Do we know if the new glass and stream service with hardwiring into the new boxes are free from this issue?

Re: Sky Q & Ethernet impact on speed
@Pottersapp the Stream pucks and Glass TVs are simple network clients and do not have any similar issues in my experience.
