Sky Q, Sky Mini and Access Points

Hi,

We have a new build house over four floors.

Our VM router is in the basement, with Sky Q main box on ground floor and Sky Mini boxes on floors 1 & 2.

We have TP link access points on each floor as the signal from the router won't reach.

We have CAT6 cable from the WAPs and all TV areas back to the router.

Please could someone with technical knowledge explain how we should set this up?

Many thanks.

A fundamental issue is the Mini boxes just won't use the wireless signal from the TP Link APs, so you're going to have to rethink that.

Either Sky wireless boosters, Powerline adapters or ethernet cable is appropriate.

Directly wire all Sky Q gear then disable WiFi on all of them and use your TP-Link WAPs for WiFi.

Re: Sky Q, Sky Mini and Access Points

@jamesn123 Thanks for the info. Can i confirm the way they should be wired from the router?

VM router (port 1) > network switch > all APs

+

VM router (port 2) > sky q box

+

VM router (port 3) > sky mini box

Would that work?

Yep that should work fine as long as your VM router doesnt run any sort of port segregation

Re: Sky Q, Sky Mini and Access Points

@jamesn123 Great. If the router did segregate, would an additional switch from a router port to the Q box and mini get around that?
