Sky Hub 2.4 GHz Dropping All IoT Devices

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with my 2.4 GHz WiFi on my Sky Hub SR203 . I run a lot of IoT devices through a Smart Home Assistant setup, and I’ve noticed that all my devices keep disconnecting and stop working. I’ve traced the problem to the hub via the hub’s attached devices page, I can see them connect 1 by 1 and then drop randomly via attached devices .

When I try to ping them, they don’t respond, which suggests the hub is causing the problem. I’ve tried everything to stabilize the network, including:

  • Using channel 1 or 13  that empty using 20 MHz bandwidth

  • Making all device IPs static

Despite this, the drops continue. I strongly suspect this is a Sky Hub issue.

Has anyone else experienced this, or found a workaround to keep 2.4 GHz IoT devices reliably connected?

@JimM1I just ran a scan through my Sky account, and it indicates there is an issue with my Hub. Hopefully, this is the cause. I’ve placed an order [for the replacement/upgraded Hub] and will wait to see if that resolves the problem. Thanks for your time and help. ❤️

@WelshY1987 How many devices in total do you have connected to the sky Hub?

Re: Sky Hub 2.4 GHz Dropping All IoT Devices

@WelshY1987 Has been suggested on the Forum before with a limit on connected devices of 64 so you are not close to that, the diagnostic with the web manager for devices has never been the sharpest tool in the toolbox for good few years now. Have you tried the old power off for 10mins or so with the Hub. Having IP fixed that is for sure a reasonable way to do it and are all the IOT devices direct on the sky Hub or is there another controller that is inbetween the Hub and your software?

Re: Sky Hub 2.4 GHz Dropping All IoT Devices

I’ve tried the usual power-off for 10–15 minutes and even a full reset of the Hub. All IoT devices are connecting directly to the Sky Hub. I do have another controller, but it’s not positioned between the Hub and my software. There are TP-Link LAN adapters connected, but they are in LAN-only mode with Wi-Fi disabled.

I'm having an issue where my devices won't connect to the hub at all.  The only things that pick up the wifi are iphones and ipads.

@WelshY1987 The three 2.4Ghz bands if you are fixing those are 1,6 and 11, do not be using channel 13, is your SR203 split bands also, if not may be worth doing.

@Vicki0106 Are you using a sky Max hub and if so has it been set for WPA3 security on the wireless wi-fi setting? Also from the other post couple off days ago, did you try going back to your older sky Broadband Hub if that was what you had?

Re: Sky Hub 2.4 GHz Dropping All IoT Devices

Yes, it’s split and has been on channel 1 for the past week. I’m thinking of emailing Sky to check if there’s an issue with the Hub, as it’s not just my smart devices dropping out all devices are experiencing the same problem under the device list every refesh something come online or droped.

Re: Sky Hub 2.4 GHz Dropping All IoT Devices

@WelshY1987 The device connected manager is just not that good to trust, are you a single hub only with NO extra wireless wi-fi boosting?

Could be the hub, just depends on if when you ping the device is in a connected state or not, just pinged all my IOT's and they do appear to be stable, but will say NOT using my SR203 anymore, but was nothing wrong with it for the six weeks that i was back on!

SR203 / SE210 was the combo to get stable about the home, single SR did not cut it!

Re: Sky Hub 2.4 GHz Dropping All IoT Devices

Yes, it’s a single setup — just the Sky Hub with no additional devices. When the devices appear in the attached devices list, I can ping them, but soon after they disappear and ping fails. Some of the devices that drop out are located right under the Hub, so a weak connection can be ruled out.

@WelshY1987 do you have Sky Q boxes by any chance? If your IOT kit is from China it is possible the wifi cards wont allow use of ch12 or ch13 which are not used in the US.

Re: Sky Hub 2.4 GHz Dropping All IoT Devices

@WelshY1987 Sorry don't have my SR connected just now, is there a save option or apply the changes to take effect?

Take it you fixed all the IP's in the advanced Lan manager screen! and carefull to skip any IP that could not have been on and assigned previous to a device, like printers etc!
