Hi,
I had Sky Fibre 900 installed a week ago, but I was sent a replacement Sky Broadband SR203 router, even though I had that with my Sky FTTC 80MB.
I would have assumed I should have been sent a Sky Max Router since the SR203 is wifi 5 and therefore bandwidth limiting, and not using the purchased speed of Fibre 900. In this instance The Wifi Max router as wifi 6 is the correct item.
On speaking to Sky they want a further ~£7 a month which i declined.
On testing via ethernet I am getting ~880mb, so defintely the router is not fit for purpose for wifi.
I have also spotted another issue which I will post in another thread whereby if the Sky Q boxes are on the cat 6 network its bringing my speeds down to ~280mb, but disconnecting them from the internal home network all my alreas then see ~880mb.

What are the thoughts on what router I should have received for Fibre 900 ?
Thanks,
Pav

As I understand it, the White Max hub is only supplied foc for new Sky fibre broadband packages and not fibre upgrades. I was recently supplied with the max hub for my 500mb package but I switched from BT to Sky. (seems a bit daft but there you go)

I'd suggest only losing 20mb on a 900mb speed is not too bad a loss (when you compare to a lot posts on this forum). Having said that, I have my pc connected by lan (cat6) to my hub and I consistently get 510mbps speeds, so slightly above package speed.

Ps. Many people who changed from SR203 to the max hub actually request switching back as WiFi performance seemingly reduces on the max hub (guess not an issue for you if you have everything wired, like I do)

Hi,
It's a bit odd only providing the white one for new joiners. Mine was a FTTC 80mb upgrade to FTTP Fibre 900. It highlights they are not providing a wifi cable box fit for the package they are selling. ie SR203 for Fibre 900.
I was more highlighting the difference from 280 to 680. Was not worried about the drop from 900 to 880.
Kind regards,
Pav

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@pbirah as I think you akready know from your post in the Q forum there are anomalies between Sky Q and high speed full fibre systems . The Airties mesh networking system was developed well before gigabit domestic wifi was a thing and simply cannot cope and you are not the first to observe the slow down. Sky Q is now being wound down as a product as satellite broadcasting has a strictly limited future in the UK. If it concerns you switch to Sky Stream which displays no such issues.
Sky have confirmed that currently they are not changing the hub for existing customers when they upgrade to full fibre. If you want a Sky Max hub you have to buy the WiFi Max bundle but if you reject that in the first 31 days you keep the new hub. 😉
However if you plan to keep Sky Q I would not reommend changing as the new hub is not compatable with Sky Q boxes so acts like a third party router losing the wifi hot spots etc. Given most apps cannot use 100Mb/s your concerns about speeds are unlikely to cause realistic issues for most domestic users.
