Sky DNS server issues

Has anyone noticed any issues with sky's dns servers the last couple of nights? Recently I seem not to be able to complete dns lookups on sky servers and have to switch my devices to Googles dns for it to work

No issue here. Any specific website(s), or everything in general?

@aoxm84 Everything in general, could not access any websites or apps on any of my devices, switched to Googles DNS and is fine straight away.

This only seems to have occurred the last few nights so possible server maintenance?

@jamesn123 I'd imagine we'd have heard a lot more if it was a general outage.

Might be worth typing "nslookup www.google.com" in a Command Prompt and pasting the result if it happens again, it might give some clues.

@aoxm84

Thats the first thing I did Smiley Happy

It couldnt communicate with Sky's DNS servers (IP was something like 90.207.xxx.xx)

Changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and then it worked fine

Normally nslookup would report the router's IP address as the DNS server. What router are you using?

Re: Sky DNS server issues

Yeah that's what I meant, it pointed to the router and the router was showing the dns servers IP addresses as 92.207.xxx.xx

Which I also couldn't ping to see if they were online at the time and I can ping them now which suggests something did go wrong

How did you change your DNS servers? are you using a third party router?

Re: Sky DNS server issues

Yes,

Sky DNS seems to be knackered, as above if I drop any of my devices to googles open dns 8.8.8.8 everything works fine. If I drop any device back to DHCP and renew the lease on ‘the device’ internet searches do nothing.  There is definately an issue with Sky.

Re: Sky DNS server issues

The Sky DNS servers work fine, I'm using an SR102.

But there are possibly firmware issues relating to the Q Hub which means the Hub is unable to access the DNS servers at times.
