Hi,
was wondering if anyone could help, i recently renewed my broadband but my speeds seemed to have changed. when i first got sky broadband fibre my download speed was around 65-75mb but it now seems to have dropped to 53. sometimes even lowering during peak times, now my guranteed download speed is only 39mb. I just don't see how my internet went from being fast at one point to really slow the next. My tv is constantly buffering which i never have issues with in the pass but now im getting alot of problems. Any suggestions ?
Thanks

There's a known phenomenon where as a fibre cabinet reaches capacity the average line speed possible reduces because signal over hundreds of copper phone pairs starts to interfere with itself. If your Guaranteed Minimum Download Speed has been reduced, that suggests Openreach are aware of this (or of a degradation somewhere else in the copper part of the circuit), but given that's still well above the 10Mbs required by the Universal Service Obligation neither they or an ISP has to do anything about it.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, yes the sky engineer said something simliar to me around a year ago, im really close to the cabinet so i dont think that's the issue. Its just annoying as all of us stream from phones to tvs etc and our internet doesn't seem to cope anymore. I just can't seem to get a better broadband speed from anywhere as we are in a flat so i doubt we will be getting superfast anytime soon.

53Mbs is Superfast (which is any 'up to' 40Mbs or 80Mbs service over FTTC). The next step up is 'Ultrafast'.
"all of us stream from phones to tvs etc" is more likely to have problems with local WiFi than actual internet speed: your 53Mbs is pretty close to the national average for FTTC.

I rejected the table as it shows your unique property reference number
But it does show the cabinet is at full capacity and the lines are suffering contention. This would only improve if openreach expand the number of slots in the cabinet or fttp arrives

Is it possible if i contact openreach or sky about the issue or would that not resolve anything.
Problem is im in a flat so i can't seem to upgrade or improve my wifi speed so basically im stuck at the speeds that i have.

You could use this form and in the drop down menu choose "i am having problems with my broadband speed" and state you believe this is down to a full cabinet and ask if there's any chance of the cabinet been expanded and timescales for full fibre fttp

Thank you so much for your help.
Just a quick question if you could help, Do you reckon a new wifi 6 router would improve my signal and maybe stop the buffering ?
i currently have the one sky supply

Realistically the timescale for cabinet expansion could be somewhere between lengthy and infinite: as I mentioned above, even just 40Mbs is still four times the current UK target for minimum speed.

Certainly the current speed sufficient for uhd streaming.
However i notice none of your devices are etherneted and the 2.4ghz is doing most of the work. This would be more prone to slower bandwidth and interference from other network ssids
I would look into maybe using an ethernet cable for the tv
Also seperate the wifi as below and add the likes of streaming sticks (fire stick, roku etc) to 5ghz and keep the 2.4ghz for mobile devices etc

ok just so i understand what you are saying
Put the tv onto an ethernet cable
Change all streaming devices for watcing like tvs, tabs and xbox's to the 5 ghz band
Then change all phone to the 2.4 ghz band
is that correct ?

Yes. If the tv is too far from the hub try a set of ethernet powerline adapters which will transfer the ip packets via the existing elecric wiring
