Sky Booster SE210 - What is max possible wifi speed output from Booster with a 500 Mbs SR203 Router?
Morning ! I have a standard Sky Router SR203 (grey one) outputting a stable 500 Mbs wifi speed -- all fine. At a more remote area in my house, through a wall or two , the speed via Wifi drops as expected and to around 200 Mbs.
If I connect an Sky Booster (older white model SE210 with ethernet port) to try to increase that speed back up to ~ 500 Mbs , will this be a waste of time as I read recently that the SE210 max wifi speed is capped at 150 Mbs whatever the speed it receives ? Has there been a firmware update to improve that cap up to say 500 + ??
If the SE210 is capped at 150 Mbs, any recommendations for a decent Booster/Extender to handle speeds up to 500 Mbs plus from the Sky SR203 WiFi 5 model ??
Any advice / replies greatfully received !
Thanks, Peter

@sidestick How do you intend to connect the SE210 to the SR203, wireless connected or wired between them both?

@sidestick Do you already have the SE210 or is this a just go get one, any SE210 on a wi-fi only connection is basically a half duplex model so good to your max speed of wi-fi 5 and you would expect about 400mb/s or around that speed distance may not be to bad as you are already reporting around the 200 mark.

No it's a "goget" one - but just checking that before getting the Booster it will increase wifi speed above a reported Booster cap of 150 Mbs, where the speed being received via wifi within the area intended is ~ 200 Mbs already (on a 500 Mbs wifi output from the SR203 Router).
From your info, it seems like the Booster will be a useful addition to increase the speed above ~200 to possibly around ~ 400 Mbs. Thanks for your helpful assistance

@sidestick Have my SE210 parked away in its box from years ago, will hook onto my Asus RP-AX58 which is sitting in repeater mode and see what i get on the FF500 that i have as a speed test later and post that result for you. Jim
Edit:- 2 speed test 1st on the SR203 direct wi-fi, 2nd on the Asus RP-AX58 which is repeater on the SR203, Asus was busy as daughter was streaming 4kUHD movie and the wife was on her laptop you tubing as normal so will get a capture later when they are all off it, life would not be worth living if i asked them to get off it know what i mean.... Picures you will see when they get approved.
SR203 direct on its wi-fi
Asus RP-AX58 linked to the SR203 in Repeater mode and busy with other connections

Jim - your testing is really appreciated - especially finding and scrabbling about using your old SE210 !
At least the "capped at 150 Mbs" I read is not true - you got 219 Mbs so that's great !
If... at a family quiter moment ... V difficult I know (!) --- you could run the test again sometime without any other major load on the AX58 / SR203 that would be really great 👍.
Thanks very much indeed - much appreciated Jim , kind regards Peter

Re: Sky Booster SE210 - What is max possible wifi speed output from Booster with a 500 Mbs SR203 Rou
@sidestick It's allways going to be the issue with ANY wireless connected repeater no matter what the make is, there is NOT a wireless backhaul mode on the Sky SR203 - SE210, so it is completely in the lap off the gods to what you get connected via wireless, wired backhaul just cannot be beaten.
My Asus i have all set up in wired backhaul with one unit wireless all in AI mode, those never fall back below the 500mb/s but that is the pipe limit on a FF500 connection. More about stability sharing and keeping eveyone off my back... No problems easy life...
My SE210 is the early generation so it does have the Ethernet connector, latter ones did not just the heads up, NIC worked on the SE210 know for sure as i had my SAT box NONE sky connected up to it, on a Tp-Link poweline at present, but just the same operation.

Re: Sky Booster SE210 - What is max possible wifi speed output from Booster with a 500 Mbs SR203 Rou
@sidestick the SE210 is an WiFi5 device ie 802.11ac so in theory can support speeds up to roughly 700Mb/s over wifi BUT in practice as it has to use its bandwidth for both the connection to the device and the backhaul connection to the hub you the device gets a maximum roughly 50% of the speed the booster connects at to the hub. The 150Mb/s is a sensible upper estimate but isnt a limit as such.
Honestly while these units have their uses I would not try to use one for any connection where you need speed. Given you can buy multiple unit WiFi5 WiFi mesh solutions like my own quite cheaply they are a far better solution.
65inch Sky Glass, 3 Sky Streaming Pucks, Sky Ultrafast + and Sky SR213(white Wifi Max hub) main Wifi from 3 TP-Link Deco M4 units in access point mode
