Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

Hello.

Current setup:

Sky wireless router (router mode, wifi turned off) -> Linksys MR9600 router -> Linksys Velop AC6600 (3 nodes).

Since setting this up, using my own wifi SSID and hardwired devices into nodes, I am getting almost daily loss of connection to the nodes and to the Sky Q boxes. I have 2 minis and 1 standard box. The router keeps rebooting almost daily and/or nodes lose connection.

Question: Any one have issues/successful working of a similar set up ie: sky router -> own router ->mesh?

I am assuming this is not normal to lose connection daily and or router rebooting. Any anyone please help me troubleshoot this?

Should I give up, rip it all out and go back to the default Sky set up?

Thanks

@Arun2022

It depends which device in the chain is losing connection.

Can you post your Sky hubs stats and log?

Re: Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

Thank you for getting back to me.

I am sure the router attached to Sky hub is losing this connection as it reboots (it goes through its flashing lights and red/blue sequence). Once the light is solid blue (which means the router is up), I get internet.

Thank you!

This forum won't let me copy paste the code even with html tags. It says it has private info.

I am also unable to attach the log file.

What do you have connected to ethernet port 4?

Re: Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

Where do you mean sky or Linksys router?

On Sky, port 4 is: to router

on Router: to my PC

@Arun2022

On the Sky hub.

Whatever is connected to port 4 on the Sky hub is constantly dropping the ethernet connection so I would say the issue is one of the following;

- Faulty Port on Sky hub

- Faulty ethernet cable

- Faulty port on your other router

- Your other router is just faulty or has an issue causing it to drop its WAN/LAN connection.

Re: Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

Thank you! That is very helpful.

I will change one thing at a time, cable, then port on router, then sky. I do not think it is the router as it is brand new as I complained to Linksys and they swapped it out to another brand new one, so I doubt it is the router as it was swapped out and I get the same issue.

I will swap the cable today and see what happens.

Will report back in a few days.

Thanks for your help thus far.

Re: Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

Hi,

Did you fix this please?

I have a linksys router, 1 mini box connected via Wi-Fi and main box connected via cable to router.

The mini box is always disconnecting from the network. I've tried different Wi-Fi channels, changing the ip address, and rebooting everything which sometimes helps but not for not for long.

Re: Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

Hi @racka ,

Unfortunately, after weeks and weeks of trying I had to remove all my Linksys gear. I had constant disconnections and reboots of router when I had my kit set up. I know my kit works fine, as they were either brand new or stuff that just work a few weeks earlier. I removed all my kit and magically everything behaved.

I then connected just a Linksys router - changing the Sky router into just a modem, this kept rebooting my Linksys router almost daily.

I then removed the router and added three Linksys Velop WHW0303B  nodes (one to Sky router and the other two dotted around the house. This also kept rebooting or nodes losing connection - almost daily.

Sky tech support was of no help whatsoever other than to say you need to remove the kit. That was the only support they offered.

Magically as soon as I removed my kit, everything started to work fine, except no reach upstairs. I got an engineer who came in and put in two 'boosters' - extenders, and now I get reach all over the house.

It is awful that Sky has done this - that we cannot add any kit to their router. It is so obvious as as soon as you add anything, it starts to reboot or lose connection - inc. Sky Q boxes.

All my expensive kit is now in storage.

Re: Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

I can confirm that Sky Q boxes - both mini and 1GB - do not like ethernet connections to Linksys client nodes. Constant rebooting occurs on the linksys side. Linksys support did not have a clue. So intially I put a powwerline connection to the man q box and let the sky mesh talk to the mini's.

Eventually I put 3 TP-link  RE330 wifi extenders hardwired to each skyq box with the wifi extension function turned off.

Hope this helps someone !!

Re: Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

Hi Racka,

“Did you fix this please?” Sadly no. I had to end up removing the mesh system as it was getting constant disconnects. It became unusable – like rebooting every day.

Have had a Sky engineer out twice, they haven't a clue , gave me the number of a guy who does Nixers because he 'doesn't get wifi'...Linksys mesh works brilliantly on fiber amazing speed with Virgin bb and coverage unless you want to add Sky

Re: Setting up Linksys mesh with Sky Broadband - issues

SuboptimalDisplay,

Yep, pretty much the same experience here. They even warned me that Sky would not support anything if I add a router or mesh to the network.

The worse thing is, it is clear that they are actively blocking routers and mesh devices. As soon as I add any of my kit the system breaks and I get constant disconnects. I know for a fact that it all works. Awful set up and service.

I am yet to see a Sky admin here to assist. With VM there were many who would reach out to help and even book calls for you, however, over here, one one from Sky to help.
