Re: Service dropping frequently

Thanks @jamesn123 , I can definitely try connecting them directly when the new sky router arrives, at least the main Sky Q and three of the four mini's.

In laymans terms (and having read a lot of posts), it seems that the SkyQ boxes are hammering the Sky broadband router for as much of the connection as they can grab. If I go directly onto the Draytek switch which has the non-SkyQ traffic, there are no real package issues / conflicts...

They do push a high amount of traffic but this in itself should not cause packet collisions and to me it really does seem the presence of a switch is causing it which really should not be the case.

Re: Service dropping frequently

When I disconnected the draytek and just had the 4SkyQ's going directly via an unmanaged netgear switch their was still high conflict. I can try that again as well and see what happens... maybe disconnecting all 4 and adding them back in one at a time..?

Didnt mean the draytek just meant that the Q boxes are connected to a switch which seems to be causing it as far as I can tell. This is why a good test would be to see if you get the collisions when the Q boxes are all directly connected to a port on the Sky hub

Re: Service dropping frequently

So @jamesn123 , this morning I stripped everything back removing SkyQ traffic and the Draytek router was showing almost to package conflicts, maybe one every 20 seconds.

Of course, with the Ashes on I needed to get the TV's back up and running quickly and the same problem returned (on a different unmanaged switch that I tried).

After lunch the new 4-port Sky router that I bought myself (as Sky would not help) arrived. I set this up with the SkyQ main box and 3 SkyQ minis collected and it worked perfectly fine, 1 collission every 20 seconds or so. Obviously I now have to try and get the Draytek connected back up and the other SkyQ mini connected without introducing the same problems. Still poor wifi coverage in the house as I have had to disable that on the SkyQ boxes..

Re: Service dropping frequently

Just a short update to thank those that offered advice and to say that the issue is finally resolved and to update on what was done in case it helps anyone else with similar issues. The thing that made the real difference to stabilising everything was the new Sky Router, purchased on Amazon as Sky put it all down to too many devices connected wirelessly in the last call (and could not send me one as the speed to the property that they could see on their diagnostics was fine)!!!!. The solution:

- Separating  4 of skyq devices from the rest of the traffic via one unmanaged netgear switch directly into one of the 4 ports on this new Sky router

- connecting the 5th sky Q device directly to the new sky router in another of the 4 ports

- connecting the Draytek managed switch to the Sky router by a third port

There are now no conflicts & connections after about a month is stable for both TV & networking.

So after >25 years with Sky, 2 years of dreadful service, 2.5K of spend, lots of frustration (not to mention how much I pay Sky a year), it finally all seems to be working.... fingers crossed this continues.
