Re: Scam broadband call

Just adding to the general comments around someone leaking data !

Sky bb + phone line activated around 3-4 weeks ago.  Been very lazy in giving out the new number. Literally bank, drs and my mum have it !

But 3 crank calls in the last 24 hours.

First one yesterday got me suspicious. It was the 'we have detected issues with your broadband and need you to log onto laptop etc'

If phone number had leaked then yes anyone could call and say they are sky, bt etc and hope they got the correct ISP.

But scam caller claimed to be from Sky and knew my last 4 account number digits. Only sky know this and my email hasn't been hacked. Also they were going to tell me my area/town as further proof they were pucker but hung up as it told them to just make what whatever changes at their end !

My sky bb order was done completely online and smooth. Not had to speak or contact anyone to divulge account number.

So my only conclusion is someone at sky is leaking info.

Who should I complain to ? Sky black hole or an anecdotal email to information commissioner ?

Apart from service I jumped to sky from virgin as my old virgin phone number was a recycled number so I had spurious calls from day one with them.

Re: Scam broadband call

How can scammers get my landline number  when i do NOT ever use the number ,no one has the number and the only calls i get are from scammers. So the only way they can get the number is from SKY ???????

Re: Scam broadband call

Still getting lots of scam calls. Just hang up! Trouble is, they keep calling to their list of automatic numbers like mine. I like to play with them, let them give their spiel, keep it going as long as possible without doing anything and then ask them to give you your Sky account number to confirm they are from Sky = that's when it goes quiet!!

Re: Scam broadband call

Just had a scam broadband call from sky tech services in london. Was asked to log onto my laptop, the only device I had open was my mobile phone. Was told to log onto www.fast.com to check out my internet speed. The Indian lady said that as it was quite low she could help sort it for me. I stared to get to a bit suspicious as I'd not had any info from sky saying that they were upgrading internet speeds etc.

so I told her this and terminated the call. I  rang the number  later and it said it was unrecognizable....definately a scam!!!

Re: Scam broadband call

I've had a few of these scam-calls previously so I recognise the slight delay in connection when the phone is answered, the obviously Indian/Asian voice tones, and the lack of detail when questioned. Not only have I been called from "Sky Technical Department", but also from "Sky Security Team", both called yesterday. That was a "Maria" and a "Sebastian" who said they were based in Sheffield, so I asked about the trams and Meadowhall, and if the cooling towers were still there. Funny enough I just called [removed]

I can't wait for the next call, lockdown has been so boring.

Re: Scam call to landline

I've been having trouble with internet speed and reported it to sky. Got a call yesterday and stupidly followed instructions to downloaded teamviewer and gave the guy the code that came up on the site. He then asked me to go in a website called skyweeb but by this time I was thinking scam and put the phone down. He called me back 5 times but I didn't answer. I can't seem to get rid of the app from my iPad. Could he access anything on my device. I'm very worried and not sure what to do.

Re: Scam broadband call

Yes he might Google it see how it can be removed from your ipad and you can reset your ipac...

How to delete an app

  1. Touch and hold the app.
  2. Tap Remove App
  3. Tap Delete App, then tap Delete to confirm.

Re: Scam call to landline

Hi I've done what you said but it's still in my iCloud. Is there a way to get rid of it from there ?. I've clicked on it but there's no delete button? Thankyou

Maybe try this:

Note that if what you are seeing is just the installer file, then it's not actually doing anything.

Re: Scam broadband call

I'm still getting calls. Male then female then male again all on my landline. I still tell them I'll report them to the police but sure when I look up the number it's in India so what can the police do? Short of unplugging the phone I don't see what other steps I can take because they ring around 8am and it [removed] off.

Re: Scam broadband call

I had another scam call on Saturday, really early in the morning, an Indian lady who insisted there was something wrong with my SKY broadband. I really wasn't in the mood so my reply was a bit on the sharp side

By random dialling.  'Ex-directory' doesn't mean 'private' or 'unreachable', just that it isn't publicly listed against your name.
