SR213 and Sky Q update by Christmas?

So, we've just been upgraded from Broadband Super fast to Full Fibre 500 (what a palaver, but that's another story...).

Anyway, after seeing on here that there are potential issues with the new SR213 (which I was sent) and Sky Q, I asked the Sky engineers whether I should stick to the existing SR203 hub or use the new SR213?

We only have one Mini box and I'd seen on here that the SR213 would work with one Mini, but no more.

The Sky engineers told me to stick with the old router (which I have) and that there's going to be software updates for the SR213 by Christmas to ensure Q compatibility.

Anyone else aware of this?

Also, as the SR203 seems to be working fine do I stick with it or wait for the update and swap it over - what advantages does the new hub have (Assuming it works with Q)?

Sky has been offering Max at households with one Q Mini box for months.  Max is never going to have Q mesh functionality though.

I'd suggest reviewing other threads in this forum though: the Max Hub has particular foibles.

@TimmyBGood so, are you saying that it will work with one Mini Box? The engineers are wrong? (Surely not...)

Max wasn't originally supplied to Q households: that has now changed.

The engineer needs to catchup a bit, you can have max with Sky Q + 1 mini box.

Recent public posts suggest even that restriction has been lifted.

I suspect one point of confusion is that Max doesn't (and won't) support Q mesh functionality and so Q television boxes lose their automatic hotspot feature.

And what are the advantages of the SR213 over the SR203, if any?

So I know which one to return.

New Sky hub has WiFi 6, thats pretty much it.

All the admin is done via the My Sky app, some may see this as an advantage, others may see it as a disadvantage.

Max subscription brings a WiFi 6 Hub, Parental Controls (now absent from the Sky Broadband Hub) and supposedly AI-enhanced cloud security, plus the option to claim booster pods.

Most complained about feature is WiFi bands can no longer be unsynchronized and renamed.

@TimmyBGood @jamesn123 so, to be honest nothing that really affects me, there's only two of us, no kids, no gaming etc. We only went for FF500 as it was cheaper than the existing Super fast.

I'll wait for Sky to chase the return, then ask Mrs Cake to choose which colour she prefers 😄

I would be cautious of sending the wrong hub back to Sky. If they request a return of your old hub and you send the new one they may not accept it and say you didnt return anything. Additionally if you ever leave Sky and they request your hub back and you then send them your older SR203 they may again reject the return.

Ah, I didn't realise they checked type/serial numbers etc. I assumed they just looked at a Sky hub had been returned and ticked a box.

I'll ponder, maybe even pluck up the courage to swap hubs and change everythings login or change the new hubs details to match the old one and see if there's any difference

I dont think they go as in depth as serial numbers but I think they at least check the model. I wouldnt want to risk it anyway as Sky's non-return charges can be quite hefty
