I have read on the SKY installation instructions that the cable from the ONT MUST be plugged into ethernet port 4 (labelled WAN) or it won't work.
I realised today that I have inadvertently had it in Port 1, yet all seems to have been working correctly.
Additionally, the PlayStation attached by cable to Port 4 happily accepted it as a LAN connection.
I have swapped the cables now, but does anyone know why/how it was all working fine, despite SKY specifying Port 4 and stating that it won't work on any other ethernet port?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Ninjacat78 you have proved that apparently port 1 works as well as port 4. Not totally surprising as the Hub seems able to switch from working via the modem to working via a WAN connection without a reboot. I assume the ports auto sense the use case. Sky like simple instructions which msybe why they mention a particular port but otherwise unless Sky tell us its guess work.

@Chrisee My broadband (full fibre to property) is also very slow. Supposed to be 500mbps with 400 guaranteed. Normally it is around 60mbps that I get and rarely above 200
And that isn't even WiFi. Fastest ethernet cable available linking router to SKY box/PS4.
Download HD movie in minute? Nope. More like 10 minutes. Sky speed checker is useless as it just says "everything is fine" and so there seems no easy way to raise the issue - way below "guarantee" and paying far too much for the speed I am getting.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSky Q is capped at 100mbps via ethernet and users have reported that when connecting Sky Q via ethernet it ends up limiting their entire network to 100mbps or 50mbps. I would recommend disconnecting your Sky Q hub from ethernet and see what speeds you can get via ethernet on another device.
