Re: Replacing Sky Broadband hub with third party router

I've considered asking Sky if they can swap my router for the new SR213 router but can't find any info on the website.

There's a couple for sale on ebay.

@RedPhil51 the SR213 should not be sold as they all are Sky's property.  They. Also require settting up on the My Skyapp nby Sky to able to access the settings.

@RedPhil51

Sky supplies a Max Hub to users who take up the WiFi Max subscription supplement.

Re: Replacing Sky Broadband hub with third party router

Thanks for your replies.

Looks like I'll be going for the Netgear (RS200).

Just wondering if when setting up the new router, do I need to put a specific Sky user name and password?

Does the Sky Router have a user name and password other than the Admin username and password?

Sorrry to ask again but do I need a user name and password to set p the router or will it 'just work' once plugged in and configured?

@RedPhil51 assuming you have a Sky full  fibre service in the UK any new router should support DHCPv4 Option61 with a standard string in the form anything@skydsl|anything as you dont need a specific log in to connect directly to the ONT. I am not 100% sure that the Netgear RS2000 does you would need to check. Asuus routers are widly used by forum members so maybe easier if you are unsure about how to confgure a router yourself.

There is an alternate authentication that around 80% of lines support which is DHCPv6 PD which might work but there is no way to check in advance. You can connect any router without the authentication issue behind a Sky hubs in a Double NAT configuration which means you can keep the vouse line which you lose if the Sky hub is not connected directly to the ONT.
