Replace Sky router (SR203) with 3rd party modem + router combo

Hi

I'm looking to replace the standard Sky SR203 modem/router and believe, from some research and reading, that I have a couple of options.  We're just on a standard FTTC 80Mb-ish copper broadband connection (with voice, but we never use it).

I want to use a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X (that I already have) and it sounds like I have a couple of options modem-wise.  Some people seem to use a BT OpenReach modem (usually sourced from eBay) and there is also positive sentiment towards devices like the DrayTek Vigor 130.

If I go for the BT OpenReach modem option from eBay, is there anything specific I need to know about the spec/model?

(Once I have this in place, I plan on deploying some Unifi AP's to replace a legacy Ruckus wireless setup.  FWIW, I have some CAT6 structured cabling in place and a couple of gigabit switches, including one with PoE).

I'd really appreciate feedback from anyone who has tried this and has any advice.  Also keen to hear any other ideas that will allow me to achieve a similar end game.

Thanks for your help.

Perhaps one point to consider is that all Openreach VDSL modems are antique and consequently long out of support, while a Vigor will at least have current firmware.

I have just replaced my sky max (white) router with this ASUS TUF AX3000 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Gaming Router

as I am on fttp it connected once the app was downloaded without having to change any internal settings

for adsl there are many posts in the forum with the correct setting for asus

i just changed the ssid and password to match my existing router and everything reconnected automatically bar the main q box
