Re: Reduced throughput

@Blossom11 Thanks for your update. Look forward to hearing how the Openreach appointment goes - I hope they are able to sort it for you.

Re: Reduced throughput

@Gematria

The Openreach engineer came and couldn't find anything wrong with the line except that the noise margin was at 3 instead of 6 so he reset the line , but no difference. He thinks it is a sky problem but just to be sure he went to the cabinet and changed the card and the port, but still the same throughput. He said to leave it until after the weekend and if still the same to contact sky again.

We are out of contract so could leave sky with no penalty, but we are waiting for Cityfibre to put in FTTP here. It should have been last year, but the one ISP we know will be available now say it should be available for preorder from August, but they keep changing that.

I am thinking of looking for an ISP with just a rolling month contract to tide us over until we can get FTTP.

Re: Reduced throughput

@Blossom11 Thanks for this update - sorry to hear that it couldn't be fixed (although I guess there is a very small chance that it could iron itself out over the next few days). Interesting that the engineer thought it was a Sky problem - so the implication is that another ISP, even using the same infrastructure/Openreach and so on, might bring different results? I hope you get a solution of some sort. My contract isn't up until later this year, and where I live there's virtually no chance of FTTP.

Re: Reduced throughput

@Toni-leigh if you get a minute later on this week once your new connection is up and running, please could you post here and let us know how your new speeds are?

@Blossom11 any progress on your issue, or any luck with finding a different ISP?

No change at my end since I last posted.

Thanks.

Re: Reduced throughput

@Gematria

No change here too. Synced at 35-36, throughput 25-26. I may try Sky again later this week, but as that is more than our guaranteed minimum speed they will probably say they can't do anything about it.

Re: Reduced throughput

I am pretty certain that this is a new method that Sky is using for traffic management based on congestion around areas of the UK on the Sky network, slightly more complex and done to reduce the cost which they should fix by improving the backhaul capacity on those areas impacted! 😎

Re: Reduced throughput

@Gematria did you ever get this sorted? I'm having the exact same issues and am only 4 months into an 18 month contract 😭

Re: Reduced throughput

@bridgey81 after a while I discovered it had returned to normal - I didn't contact Sky again, but I guess something somewhere must have been put right, as we're thankfully now back to the speeds we should be getting. I hope you get yours sorted.

Re: Reduced throughput

@Gematria glad you got sorted in the end - hopefully ours sorts itself out too because Sky are less than helpful and there's nothing else left for us to try.

I asked them whether they could force a firmware update (we're not on the latest firmware) in situations like this to see whether that's the issue and they said they couldn't and, basically, you'll get it when you get it, which I find pretty poor.

Anyway, I guess it's just wait and keep checking anyway 🙄

Re: Reduced throughput

Really interesting to read through the issues!

I agree with @mae-3's comment and think there is something underhand being done by sky and they're not being transparent or upfront about it.

This evening I noticed my broadband was borderline unusable, I ran speed tests from google and it was coming back with 11.8Mbps down and 0.09Mbps upload. Thought this was crazy low so turned off wifi on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz on the router and renamed the access points and speed only increased to 19.4Mbps down and 4.86Mbps up. Speed tests were ran on my ethernet connected PC.

My sync speeds are: 43Mbps down and 7 Mbps up

Before reboot and wifi turn off:

Re: Reduced throughput

@Blossom11 did you find a ISP who provides a rolling contract? I'm also waiting on full fibre being rolled out in my area 😞
