Reduced signal then new offer

Since the beginning of the year, my broadband had dropped from 50+mbs to around 30mbs.

I have received several emails offering the right to leave Sky.

Today I called looking for an explanation and was told that "they are working to resolve the issue".

I was also offered a different package which would give me coverage in all rooms in my house for an extra £10 per month (specially reduced to £5 per month).

Excuse my cynicism but; is this a scam?  Reduce my signal then offer me better for more money!

I wonder what of come would say.

@DaiDwl its not a scam but it sca Sky agent being a bit cheeky.

The email will have been genersted because Openreach will have told Sky they are unwilling to do the work required to bring your kine up to the standard to deliver your previous guaranteed speed. This is becoming more common as Openreach reduce the work they will do on the old copper network which is due to be replaced by full fibre in the next few years. While you can switch providers without penalty it is pointless unless who you move to is using a different network than Openreach.

The agent was trying to sell you a wifi package which will help, with wifi but wont increase the speed your hub receives - the agents are on commission.

Ofcom would say that's unacceptable, which is why it doesn't happen.

An offer to leave without penalty because an ISP cannot deliver a 'guaranteed' speed to their router over the external Openreach cabling is not connected to a marketing promotion for 'better' local wireless coverage, because broadband and WiFi are not the same thing.

Re: Reduced signal then new offer

Thanks for the replies.  I would have appreciated having that information from sky themselves.

I've solved the problem to a certain extent.  Following the decrease in speed, Sky invited me to break with them as they could not meet the agreed speed. They also increased my monthly charge.

I've joined Now broadband and, as they use Sky's network, I will get the same poor signal for £7 less a month

Now and Sky use the Openreach network, as does BT/EE/Plusnet, TalkTalk, Vodafone, Zen...
